i'm going to florida soon with my friend and his family and i'm planning on using the tighty-whitey technique. The only thing that scares me is the dogs. I've seen some people in this thread say there will be no dogs while some say drug-sniffing dogs are possible. What are the chances a drug-sniffing dog will be sniffing people on a domestic flight from NYC to Orlando? I figure domestic flights would only have bomb-sniffing dogs.

Chance of drug-sniffing dog - zilch. Heighten security in the airports last week and it was still business as usual - shoes off, jacket off, hold your boarding pass . . . slide right through. But beware of the new scanning technology. You are safe now but by this time next year we may need to rethink the whitey-tightey method. Good travels!

What a great topic everyone. Bart - You have the patience of a saint to keep repeating your very good advice. I am going to take some domestically - the only way to get through christmas with the family. Of course, it won't be in a shampoo bottle - lol - but on me. I was thinking just put it in my pocket - I look so very straight. I regularly buy in Nimbin and the few times the cops have had roadblocks up searching hippies, I get literally waived through. (Straight car and tidy conservative clothes really help). But I was reading with interest about the stuffing of orifices....Why can a dog not smell it from there? From what I have read about the way dogs smell, it is layers of smell that can even escape through the plastic of the most carefully triple wrapped/taped stash. Surely there would be some smell of pot escaping (enough for a dog) even if it was up there (either orifice) - it's not exactly an airtight area lol. Can anyone clarify, or am I being totally stupid? Also - all that stuff about burnt pot not being detected by dogs - very interesting. I saw a few people asking about cookies & cannabutter (never heard that term before - cool word though) but didn't feel there was a good answer. I guess it depends what the dog is trained for? Or is is more like, well it's just like carrying regular MJ? I was thinking of taking cookies as well as some to smoke, but perhpas that is just plain greedy. And might I say, being a heavy smoker for the past 8 years or so I have never taken it on a plane - usually can line some up for when I arrive - but arriving on Christmas eve isn't the best time really, so this year I think I might risk it... We have the "warning system" in Australia, and I figure if I don't take that much (less than 15g for my state, but less than 50g for the state I am entering) with me I might get off with a warning/non criminal charge if actually caught. The Warning depends on the discretion of the copper though..... Also, at this time of the year (Christmas) the cops are obsessed with the roads - especially the Pacific Hwy - and seem to be 'out in force' with the breathalizers and radar thingsy for speeding. Sorry, just rambling on now....trying to get to calm about it. Thanks to everyone, especially Bart and Grillmeats - good work boys!

RubyMu - you are too kind. Education is a process of repeating the same thing over and over again until the student get's it. I employ a number of young men in a pot-friendly environment and find I often must repeat myself to them individually, and accept that it needs to sound like the first time I ever said it. Herein this site is good practice. I am motivated by others who do much the same thing - like Buzzby who has posted the NORML site in response to questions more times than I can count, or Mama Budz who cites the Posting Guidelines more often than cookie recipies. PLEASE post your experience after Christmas, is it the same in Oz as here? We were under tighter security during the Iraq Elections but this week thing have gotten easier in the airports.

Merry Christmas to you, too, Grillmeats! Chicago is not in my immediate travel plans but soon. I'm just back from Atlanta, Dallas, and Las Vegas. Happy to be home here in California - the weather is good, and warm! Travel right now is good and easy for potheads, put that weed in your whitey-tighties and get on home for the holidays. Just between us, I would love to give you a belated Christmas Gift. I am working on the Rose Bowl National Championship Game this year (1/4/06) - so in your honor I would be happy to slip in a graphic with Grillmeats.com - you need to send me the file! Then a couple of steaks!

Yeah, being asked to remove your hat or shoes IS NOT considred a strip search in any jurisdiction i'm aware of. I have no idea where you came across that information, but its completely incorrect. Nevermind..I didn't realize I was replying to an ancient post
