Despite peoples assurances that flying with MJ in my undies would be safe, I decided not to - and boy am I happy. Upon leaving Vegas, I was randomly selected to go to line #9. Not knowing what that was, I went happily - got to cut the whole security line, and was pretty stoked. Well...I was selected to go through the new sniffer machine that was mentioned on here earlier. I stood in a little room and air was blown all over me. I got through, but I had nothing on me.

To all those who say it's safe, and write a numberof posts saying that - you really should stop giving bad advise. Technology is catching up, and you most certainly CAN get caught on domestic travel.

I'll never even consider traveling with pot again - it's too unsafe.

You are suggesting that the machine is sniffing for MJ? You are the one who is wrong and giving bad, paranoid, advise. These machines are sniffing for explosives, and I have been through them many times with MJ in my undies.

Suppose an individual is licensed as a medical marijuana patient in their home state and person is flying to another state. Will their medication be considered illegal at the airport where they board their flight since it is legal for the person to possess in that state? I have seen it posted here that local officials (Sheriff, Police) would be the law enforcement agency to respond to mj being found in a person's luggage.

That is an outstanding question! You are treading on new turf here and I wonder if you can get the appropriate response for across the nation application.

My guess is that the situation would occur in stages. Your weed would be discovered by a federal authority - the TSA - then referred to the local administrative agency on the airport - who would determine if you were in compliance with the local ordinance for the MJ. If you have the appropriate documentation, you could be off the hook? What is good for Oakland may not work in Las Vegas.

Anyone want to take a risk?

Louisville has Burger King and Pizza Hut as well as a sandwich stand outside security. BWI has lots of sandwich and sub shops outside security as well. Both airports have bathrooms outside security. BWI concourse C security entrance is flanked on either side by the men's and ladies' rooms. In a layover in Kansas City I had to exit and reenter security in order to use the bathroom, I recall there was a Starbucks outside security there as well. KC actually has a security check for each gate area.

Valerie Corral from WAMM got busted in Burbank with cannabis and a card and was cited. I expect she beat it, but it was a intrastate flight.

Alright, I've been reading this thread all day and I'm about 59 pages in.
I figure it's time to state my situation.
I know Bart, as are others, is against bringing ganja internationally.
I am going to a european country this summer, as I do EVERY summer, and I am looking to bring some herb with me. Last summer, I slacked off planning and basically just threw the baggie in a pair of socks and threw those socks in my luggage. I got through scot-free.
Previous summers before that my brother had brought it and had never had any problems putting it in a shampoo or detergent bottle. That's not to say these are great ideas.
Regardless, I know it has been recommended that I don't bring any internationally, but I'm set on doing so. At first, I was going to go with the shampoo method. Every summer I travel I have not been subjected to any dog searches leaving the US (JFK Airport and Philadelphia). The security is really low whenever I have left, or so it seems. I had wrapped and tied a yellow rope around my luggage and every summer when I have reached europe and gone to baggage claim, the bag has been recovered as it was first tied up with the rope, meaning that it wasn't open. There is no way they could open and emulate the exact same rope tie.
Upon reaching this country, I go through customs (basically a passport check), go to baggage claim, and then walk right out of the airport. (very few times has there been anyone at the exit to check and if they are it is fairly easy to get through. I can speak that language fluently so they won't necessarily view me as a tourist).
The only problem I have ever encountered with security is LEAVING that country, as they thoroughly check my carry-on and luggage. Luckily, I don't ever bring anything illegal back... seeing as how there is no need to.
The reason why I do bring ganja to europe initially is that the country has some low grade crappy buds.
Anyways, I was thinking of going with the "tighty-whitey" route for this international flight. It's been recommended for domestic flight and I don't see why it wouldn't work just as well for an international flight. If I choose to go the shampoo method route, I think I'd feel just as confident (yes, there is ALWAYS A RISK), but I have never encountered heavy customs checking upon arriving europe. I'm planning on bringing 1/4 since I'll be there approximately 1 and a half months. Sure I'd love to bring more, but I'll try to space it out over that time.
Anyways, what do you think? (even though I'd assume you'd just say to not bring any internationally).
