How does this apply to going on a cruise..? I would like to know the security pecautions necessary to bring some personal mj with me.. What do you know about this and what would you reccommend.. Last time i went on a cruise was a couple of yrs ago and was flying outta Prov RI to FL and has a doggie come up on the side of me while my father in law was standing right next to me.. I almost sh*t myself.. but the lab just kept his head down stiffing the floor it seemed.. Then once i got to front of the inspection line i saw some unidentified machine blowing air all around people.. Lucky for me i was sent to a reg. metal detector and was relieved once thru!! Put my shoes back on and screwed..!!

All depends on the cruise. If the cruise will have you going through customs, DON'T TAKE ANY WITH YOU. Simple as that.
You'd be smuggling across an international border, and the penalties are severe. They do use drug dogs for luggage and passengers from what I understand.

They made a huge deal out of this on the show America's Port (on History Channel - about the port of Los Angeles) and detained a guy because a drug dog allerted on a pill bottle with nothing more than pot residue.
In my mind, it's a point they want to drive home. They have zero tolerance for drugs going through customs.

Now, not all cruises require you to go through customs. On such a cruise, I think there would be far less risk, but I can't say I know how much risk would be involved.
Frankly, this thread is about FLYING with cannabis. There are other threads about taking weed on a cruise and include others' experiences.
Search for them on these forums, and you might get a better idea.

Remember that they also have dogs that sniff for explosives. The dog could very well have been a "bomb dog".
And the air-puffer machines don't detect marijuana. They detect trace elements of explosives.
They have been implemented in some airports, and there is discussion of those machines in this thread as well, including one quasi-humorous story of my own experience with one (non-marijuana related).

These are only used if you are chosen for "advanced screening", either random or under suspicion. And then, because of provacy concerns, you can elect NOT to go through the body x-ray, but get a pat-down instead.
By using the "tighty-whitey" method that is recommended, your stash is not likely to be found with a pat-down.

The TSA is supposed to guard privacy w/ the body x-ray machines by blurring out the groin area. Whether this would make a sack tucked into your crotch more or less visible is an unknown. But to be safe, take the pat-down.
I've flown with a stash in my crotch and gotten a pat-down search and I was able to toke up at my destination.

If I'm wrong please correct me but mailing it is the way to go. I have done this before and have never had a problem. It takes a warrant to open US mail and I don't think they have dogs sniffing all the envelopes going through the mail. If you are really paranoid, vacumn seal it wearing gloves and put a phony return address on it. The receiver can always deny knowledge in the unlikely event they searched it. This is not the case with Fedex and UPS since they are private companies and you agree to letting them inspect in the fine print...

If you're going on a weekend trip, then mailing something isn't the most expedient means of getting it to the destination.

I agree on the rationale of using USPS over a private shipping company. That's a discussion better left for another thread.
