I currently live in Tokyo, Japan, and I'm off to college in Boston in about 2 months.
I have a few bongs and my question is - would be alright to bring a bong on a plane? If i clean it out - and still get caught, do i get involved with the law?

Here in Tokyo, theres no laws against bongs, and i've been taken to a police station and they found a pipe, but didn't do anything to me - and they knew i had smoked out of it casue the police smelled it.

As long as their is NO RESIN whatsoever you shouldnt have a problem. But there cant be any trace of resin.

Honestly, I wouldn't try it, even cleaned all the way out. Just buy some when ya get here!

I was talking with a canadian customs officer about his,, and he took a pair of tongs from somone.... why would he take tongs you ask? b/c it was used to hold roaches, and it had a little little little trace of riesen, and they tested it and took it and sent him packing.... you cannot have any reisens in it. so don't bother taking it their, if you plan on leaving it thier then you should bring it, cuz if it is not used, then i would bring it,, but even if it was used once and clean out good, i wouldn't trust customs

Well I agree with the other guys who say to not bring it. Whats it worth to ya Trouble or No Trouble. There are plenty of places to get one once you are here. Just make sure you call it a waterpipe when you get here are laws are so dumb sometimes. There has been a recent crackdown on waterpipe companies here in the US though so it may be a little harder than usual to get one but hell its not impossible. You could even drop me an email I live close to Boston. However if your still convinced to bring it over then I would completely soak it in alchohol if it is Glass dont if it is plastic. The Rubbing Alchohol just wanted to clarify will disolve it completely. I would do this a few times. Like I have said initially though just leave it home so you can come back to it. Lowchin

i would try and get it on the plane.i just would clean it out REAL GOOD. and package it up.

dont waste your time and effort trying to clean-bring-explain it.

just buy one when you get state side, the $25 is better spent on a bong then on a lawyer.

I think you should try it. Just clean it out so well, I mean really really really well. Boil it, use rubbing alcohol and rice, put cleaning acid on it, any other ideas you have heard do it, just make sure there is no resin at all. and ship it, dont try to bring it through the airport in your check baggage.

Yeah the word Bong is fine but up here in good ol new england it seems any time you use the word bong it will get you escorted out of any tobacco store your in. I still wouldnt try to get into the country with it unless I was moving here permanently. Unless it is like a family heirloom or something is it really worth it. I read in a Hightimes issue about a guy that was an airline mechanic or something and he would only travel with one that he made out of an old flashlight I thought that was a pretty unique idea. Mail it to yourself like some of the others have said. Hey if you think that some Bong is worth the possible headaches that you could get for bringing it through the airport that is your decision. I am not saying you will have a hard time its just a possibility. Personally I dont think that I would risk travelling into another country especially as uptight as the US.
