| I rode a motorcycle near every day for years, both in the city and on the highway. I was never stopped, but am curious about any knowledge or experience with how police treat them. I have never heard of an officer searching a motorcycle. I think if a cop had said something like that I would have laughed. There is, though, a fairly large compartment where the passenger seat is located. Any other biker smokers out there have information?

| I know someone who, after leading the cops on a high speed chase, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after such a compartment was searched. The same rules would apply to motorcycles as cars, as they can be searched incident to arrest, with permission, or with probable cause and/or a warrant

| I think a lot of cops do look closer at certain vehicles, even if you're driving/riding like a law abiding citizen. We have a sports car and a small SUV, and I feel a lot more invisible in the SUV. A lot of them are going to eyeball a Harley or a crotch rocket a lot closer than a Goldwing, and if you give them a reason to stop you and search, they're probably going to search any compartments they can find. I got stopped on a bike years ago for not having my headlight on. I had a backpack strapped behind me and the cop asked what was in it. I said books. He didn't pursue it, but he had no probable cause either. |
