| I was watching the movie "Blow" earlier and the main character got busted with 660 pounds of pot with intent to sell, and he said that he would get five years, and he'd serve two years and get probation. He ended up skipping bail and what not, but the point is were penalties ever really that lenient or is it just something the movie made up. I looked on norml and it said for more than 5,000 grams it was 4-17 years but I presume close to 300,000 grams with intent to sell would be more. Also, just how much trouble would someone really get in if they got caught with an ounce taped to their leg flying to another country? |

| It realy would depend on where you were caught and too which country you were flying. Getting caught flying into Canada is one thing, Turkey another...... Thread Moved: Protecting Your rights. |

| Don't forget too.....The law gives you a range, then judges usually decide on sentencing guidelines. For example, you could, in my state, get a year for possession over 20 grams. However, you won't see a first time offender get a year. It's possible, but it won't happen. The possibles and the realities don't always coincide. Also, you can get things like "gain time" etc, that let you out of prison early. And, don't forget that the NORML guidelines are from today and the movie was set in the 70's. What was the guideline then?

| Quite a few felony possesion first timers get off with fines, court costs and probation. Depends on your record, your demeanor, appearance and such. You j2krj, are talking about other countries. Kinda changes things.

| I was asking if the 660lbs/5 years in prison thing was realistic in the 70's for Illinois, and then a seperate question about today and how much trouble someone would get taking an ounce from the US to the Grand Caymans |
