Just top play devil's advocate....cobra venom is natural too, but you won't see me injecting it. The "its natural" argument is a weak one. Many things occur in nature that can kill you in seconds. Natural doesn't mean safe.

The whole "it grows naturally on this planet" argument may sound great to a shortsighted, rebellious teenager, but it doesn't work when applied in the real world.

Water hemlock is natural - smoke some of that and I bet it'll be your last joint.

God also gave us nightshade. It's natural and does he want us to use it? I'm with Andrew on this one. The "its natural" arguement is just lame. There are so many deadly "natural" plants out there and they probably far outnumber the safe plants, let alone the beneficial ones. The "god" aspect is also pretty laughable.
Back to the original topic, you should be open and honest to the judge IMO. If he feels you're lying to him/her, it could go badly.

When I got popped for possession they didn't ask me any questions really. They asked me what my age was, if it was mine, and then gave me my sentence. Of course shit's a little tougher in NJ for possession, but they didn't go into any specifics as to why you were using MJ.

The natural argument doesn't work because not everything natural is safe. To me the natural argument works more like "it's natural, so it should be legal." But yeah the judge might go easier on you if you said medical or religious reasons and MEAN it. Don't lie.
