| "Further more, stop asking cops legal questions." No, better that you just ask some schmoe that learned law from watching TV. You wouldn't ask a EMT for medical advice. Why not? As long as it fits within the scope of their training and experience, they can give you great advice. Of course, between patient and doctor, there are EMT's, Paramedics and nurses. All of whom are trained in many of the same functions as the doctor and get quite good at it. All 4 positions can perform CPR on you and personally, I'd prefer the EMT or Paramedic to do it over the doctor snce they get more practice at it. Kind of like nurses giving shots........better than doctors. Of course, doctors specialize too. Want to guess how many podiatrists can remember what to do for cardiac arrest? "Any and all legal questions should be given to lawyers." For that to be true, you'd either have to bug a lot of different lawyers or have a fair amount of money. Want to know if it's ever legal to make a left turn on red? Ask a cop, the lawyer probably doesn't know. And most wouldn't be bothered with the question. So, the ANY and ALL theory starts getting lame. I deal with lawyers all the time that don't know nearly as much about the topic as they think they do........... and I like showing them that they are ignorant.

| I've read more posts than I can count in the Protecting Your Rights forum and I think Niteshift gives great advice! He quotes the law exactly... he doesn't give you the jist of it. You're doing an awesome job, Niteshift. We should be glad to have an LEO that is willing to help us out here. ...just my two cents...

| Thanks guys. I think the key here isn't just giving you the law, you could go read a book and learn a lot of it. The key, in my opinion, is relating exactly how the law directly affects you. Where I get an advantage, even over some attorneys, is that I get to actually apply the law. It's not a lot of theory to me. Whether you agree with the law or not, or like cops or not, knowing how we apply the law and the process of applying it is as important as knowing the law itself. It can mean the difference between spending a couple of thousand bucks on a lawyer to beat a charge and not being charged in the first place. The internet is full of what I call urban legend law....legal advice like Panama described; stuff from TV and "this guy I know had a buddy". A perfect example is the question you will see come up here every so often: If you ask a cop if he's a cop, does he have to tell you? We've all seen the question. Most of us have heard people say yes, the cop has to tell you. But we don't. You guys are battling what you feel is ignorance of the facts about mj. I get to battle what I feel is ignorance of what the law says. It's not my job to validate the law, just tell you what it is. |

| My parents were kinda like that but they werent gonna arrest me. One day i came home stoned and I admitted that to them and that gained trust fatcor 4 some reason. trust me just tel your parents you do it they will adapt to it. Also take an intelligent position on your beliefs and talk to them about weed and back it up with support on how its not bad on how all of this gov crap is propaganda. My parents then beleieved me that i knew what i was talking about but they were scared i was gonna become a druggie. Again use inteligent conversations and tell them Look i aint in no position to become a druggie. weed is natural and has no bad side effects while other substances have bad affects on your body. Tell them how u dont want to end up being hooked on something and running to the dealer every hour 4 your hit and that u dont wanna b spending all your $$$$ on stuff that will kill u. Its worthless 2 b addicted to the poiunt where u clence the few dollars u could come up with in your soaking wet palms. After i said all that in an intelegent way they believed that i wouldnt do anything stupid and they understood that I was mature enough to have opinions and take a position and not b consumed by all this gov propaganda. THey still dont like the fact that I smoke but they dont bother me about it. I hope that helps you out with getting a better relationship with your parents. {Moderator Note: Mention of drugs other than marijuana goes against marijuana.com policy. Thanks} | |
