Im the youngest person in my group of friends (17 - 32) so theres ALWAYS someone to buy stuff. Im good about using lighters til they expire. Rolling papers? Infinite supply. What else do you need? Water for your gravity?

Then, after THEY did something ignorant, their parents sued a store for selling it to them. Win or lose, the store shells out money to defend themselves against the lawsuit.

oh don't be silly, if a kid does something messed up with a lighter or spray paint or whipped cream (off topic whipped cream use lol) how would the parent know where they got it from, anyway? why would walmart be held accountable for the child's actions?

you may be on the right track but it's really unlikely a law suit was involved in any of this. if it was, the sales wouldn't be limited by state (round here you can buy that stuff no problem, age irrelevent) it would be limited by corporation, like when that idiot spilled coffee in her lap and sued McDonalds and then for the longest time "Our coffee is very hot, be careful," printed on every surface in their restaurants.

i think the stores just don't want to get blamed for spray painted walls, kids dying of .. um .. whipped cream consumption, or helping kids smoke or burn things.

just like 'no shirt no shoes no service' or 'no smoking' signs, they're just being socially responsible.

most stores here dont require you to be 18, but some gas station clerks seem to think otherwise

What world do you live in?

You even mentioned the McDonalds coffee case. The woman put the cup of coffee between her own legs and spilled in on herself. Yet McDonalds paid an enormous suit over that. Of course the coffee was hot. It was supposed to be hot.

Look at the lawsuit about fast food making someone fat. Nutrition information IS posted or available at the restaurant, but what about common sense? Who looks at a Big Mac and thinks that looks healthy?

Look at stupid warning labels on things? I recently bought a new iron. It had a warning on it to not iron your clothes while wearing them. No sh*t Sherlock...... but you know some dumb azz did it and that's why the warning is there.

Here's another trend in lawsuits: Suing gun makers. They make a legal product. It is sold under all sorts of Federal regulations, sold legally to a citizen who does not use it for any illicit purpose. The gun is stolen and used in a crime....... someone sues the gun maker.

I recently read an interview with an official from Beretta Friearms. To date, they have NEVER had to pay a penny in one of the lawsuits, but they have spent MILLIONS of dollars in court cost defending against them.

How many idiotic lawsuits brought against people engaged in perfectly legal and responsible activities would you like me to show you?

i think the stores just don't want to get blamed for spray painted walls, kids dying of .. um .. whipped cream consumption, or helping kids smoke or burn things.

Right........that "blame" is called a lawsuit.
