Question about Security Clearances: I currently have an SSBI Clearance, working for a government contractor. I am applying for a position with another government contractor, that also requires me to have (keep) my SSBI. If I fail the drug test for the new potential employer, do they report that to anyone else, since I have a clearance? Can I lose my clearance based on failing a drug test for a new employer, or is the worst thing that can happen is I won't get the new job?

A good friend of mine tried to get a mid-level clearance a couple years ago. His older brother and a mutual friend of ours both have clearances. He was honest with them in saying that he experiemented with MJ a few times in the past, and this was consistent with their polygraph results. Needless to say, he did not get the clearance. They have too many clean-cut, small-town, anti-drug applicants to give preference to someone who has ever even touched a drug.

What agency was this for, if you don't mind me asking?

I am unaware of any 'mid-level' clearance that requires polygraph verification, even a DoD TS does not.

Even the DEA doesn't automatically exclude people who admit to youthful marijuana experimentation.


*Edit - it just occured to me that the place you are referring to could be outside of the U.S. If so, that would explain a lot.
