| I tend to agree with Nega, I don't think he's a snitch ( But I don't know him so... ).From what I know, they usually will offer a deal to snitch if he's looking at some real time ( small time dealer, not a user), and they use that to get him to "flip" on the bigger fish. But you never know, they could use him to get one dealer then the next, then so on so forth. I think they (the police) even know that if some small time dime bag user, all of a sudden tries to hook up with a dealer looking to buy a lot more than he's ever bought before, it dosen't seem right. A definte tip-off if he's a snitch. Also, I have no respect for someone who snitches. I totally agree with TM. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. I've been busted twice and have been asked to snitch, to tell the cops where I got it. I lied to them each time. They talked about offering me a deal (I told them " can't help you, I got it from someone at a party"). No way I could do that. There is no way I'm ratting my friends out because of something I did. They didn't get me in trouble, I did.

| I'm just wondering how many people here would advocate violence towards snitches. And do you REALLY know if someone is a snitch? I'm sure the police keep such information secret. I wonder how many people have been labelled with the title "snitch" when in fact they weren't snitches? Quote:

| I would never snitch on anyone, even if I hated them. When I got busted at school for being high, the first thing the cop wanted to know was who I got it from. I lied my ass off the whole time, and ended up just getting some drug classes. And I heard a whole bunch of rumors and shit telling me who it was, I believe them too, but decided to not give a shit since I got off easy anyway.

| Okay, 1. Cops and DA's will try to get ANYONE to flip no matter what the charge. An example, I was personally busted back in college and the informant was trying to beat a Misdemeanor Possession of Paraphernalia charge...which leads me to... 2. IF the case is taken all the way to trial ALL informants must be named in Discovery (that whole right to face our accusers thing). If the case is not taken to court and a deal is struck (usually informing on someone higher up), Discovery may never take place and the informant will get off with no one the wiser. 3. Informants MAY NOT participate in any illegal activity without the consent and approval of the officer in charge of the investigation. This means that informants can not keep reporting and buying anything for their own personal use. 4. Once on probation the case is over and if he has become an informant it's most likely already been done to get just probation, anyone on probation is not allowed to be an informant since they are in essence violating all kinds of restrictions of their probation. So the concerns that he may still be informing are invalid. 5. Drug cases take a minimum of five years before they are able to be expunged (federal law) and no amount of working with the authorities will help with it. It only takes 5 years, 1 lawyer, and about $1000.00 and it never happened. I don't know your brother of course but I'm familiar with the type of person and it probably would be a good idea for anyone who has something to risk not to deal with him anymore to avoid repercussions for the next time he gets in trouble (and with the way he's acting on probation it is almost assured he will be in trouble again). Does that mean that he should be the victim of violence? Not at all, it's not anyone's place to take others welfare into their own hands, anyone who does is guilty of the same exact things as the informant (can you tell I hate the word snitch yet?). Simply avoid any and all contact with him, that's what I did with the original informant and what I had to do eventually with my roommate who turned states evidence (informant) over the case we were both involved in. Last I heard they are both living the same boring "gotta find something to entertain myself with" kind of lives while I've moved onto addressing my responsibilities (with the help of the occasional toke ) |

| Of course. But that doesn't mean it's the right decision to make. It's a very misguided, if not incredibly selfish, choice -- one that the immense feeling of rejection after his discovery will hopefully correct, if there's any good in him. |

Snitching embodies several personality traits people of all walks in life find repulsive: cowardice, selfishness, disloyalty, weakness, submission, and general f*ckuppery. Anything where someone has to cover their ass by walking on other people is generally looked down upon in most human cultures. The opposite of snitching, which is clamming up, consists of traits that most people would consider "good" qualities: - loyalty (to those dealers which you have had a patronage with) - self-discipline (not sacrificing another person's happiness for your own gain) - self-preservation (because snitching can cause you to be killed or tortured), - nonconformity (not obeying authorities because you're "supposed" to) - bravery (facing the consequences of your own actions honestly) - a cool head (necessary for facing consequences of your own making) Seriously, if I thought anyone I dealed with or smoked with was a snitch, I would never associate with them again. In any capacity. Ever. This girl came to a party at my friend's house one time and started talking about how she snitched her way out of a charge once. I have NEVER entered a room with her again and made sure she knew absolutely no information about me. Snitches get stitches. And rightly.
