You'd be lucky to ever find a US court that would label this case as entrapment. Giving someone an opprotunity to commit a crime doesn't constitute entrapment, and while the "snitch" asked numerous times, without threats or other coercion, an entrapment defense is doomed to fail. Just because he instigated the transaction and asked numerous times doesn't necessarily mean you were entrapped. Did he threaten you? Did he say "x" might happen if you refused to help? Did he ever hint towards physical violence? While it may seem he "talked you into it" you had plenty of opprotunity to walk away, refuse, etc. In the end, you weren't FORCED to commit a crime, you choose to do so, albeit under percieved pressure. While it may have felt like you were entrapped, the courts will likely view things differently, and the argument will be made that, though solicited, you did indeed provide marijuana to the person in question of your own free will, which will likely be enough to garner a guilty finding. You can argue entrapment til you're blue in the face, but I think such a defense, in this case, won't be enough for a not guilty finding.

You did a stupid thing. Now, you can listen to some of these folks telling you to do another stupid thing (violence) and add more time onto your sentence, or you can learn from your mistake and take responsibility for it (you know, like grownups do).

Entirely your choice, of course.

I've always understood that threatening to harm someone (either physically or harm their reputation) to get what you wanted was considered extortion.

To coerce someone into committing a crime in order to bust them for that crime was entrapment.

But, it feels like what you are saying is that they are both the same crime? Hopefully one of you can help clear my poor simple brain of this confusion.

With great gratitude,

I'm still wondering why the guy wanted an ounce when he's a new smoker. That would seem extremely suspicious to me if someone called me and asked for that much.

Do new smokers always know how much an ounce is? I know I wouldn't. (I don't smoke pot).

Maybe not, but if a new smoker asked me for an ounce, I would let them know that that is a lot. I would also never bring someone an ounce, but then again I'm not sure I would bring someone any amount.

...you don't smoke pot? Then, if you don't mind me asking, why are you here?

As for the people saying that the original poster should kill the antagonist -

First of all, if someone rats you out for anything, do not then proceed to beat them up. Thats an excellent way to go to jail. You already know he's a snitch. Just don't ever talk to him again.

Also, why did it take several weeks to find out that his uncle was a cop? It seems like he would have busted you right away. It also seems like a lot of trouble to go through to bust one kid with pot. I don't doubt your word, but perhaps you're omitting some details?

Ah, how little you know about this site - we have numerous members who do not smoke weed, but offer some very valuable information. Sec has expertise that is vital to a specific topic here - testing. Phuzz01 has expertise in street level police matters that many posters have benefited as a result - including drug dogs. And Andrew is also a non-smoker who will challenge you to do the right thing, and introduce the concept of discipline.

We benefit when the perspectives that are offered are diverse, and therein we do not suffer from a herd mentality. We need them more than they need us, and I thank the non-smokers for their patience with us potheads.

It was dumb of him, very dumb actually, to bring that much and have another person there only labeled as the 'uncle' so shame on you poster for not using some common sense. As for snitches, letting everyone know in a very unique way is always good. We had one cat post about 5000 copies of a flyer around an entire city with the dude's picture, name, and under it the simple sentence 'Ever wonder what a snitch looked like?' Simple and effective, kid moved outta town in 2 days....Another alternative to just beating the shit out of him which will heal eventually is to destroy his shit at night....Cheap fifth of vodka, a napkin, a lighter, and a good bat to the window is not only effective but hard to pin . Nothing screams 'dont snitch' when you walk out in the morning and see your several thousand dollar car reduced to ash
