I've been smoking longer than I haven't been smoking. Most of my "daily activities" are actually enhanced through the use of cannabis.

A beer or two delays my reflexes. But then again, I don't have the same level of tolerance as a heavy drinker would. I suppose it depends on the person in question.

I've heard of many marijuana-related car accidents.
Granted, nowhere near as many as with alcohol.

I agree with the general argument that marijuana is nowhere near as dangerous as alcohol is, but driving while impaired is simply not safe. That's a poor argument to use.

I drive high more times then I drive sober and have yet to have an accident pertaining to any marijuana. Hell the two times I have wrecked no marjiuana was involved. Its unfair to say driving while impaired is not safe yet its the users ability to drive that makes it safe or not.

Show me a study that backs up your blanket accusation.

Maybe if you have too much marijuana or if there are other reasons at play you would be more prone to have an accident...

But I know a lot of smokers and none of them have ever had an accident while smoking.

Yes it is.

Shibshib, it isn't a 'blanket accusation', its called common sense and a sense of respect and responsibility.

I agree with Darque, it doesn't matter how big your tolerance is, how potent your pot is (or lack thereof), how stoned you are, or aren't, how bad traffic is, if your smoking out of a bong, a hookah, a blunt or a bowl -- it doesn't matter. Your taking an inebriating substances and then getting behind the wheel. Its not about your safety as much as it is about other drivers, pedestrians and your passengers safety. You owe it to them not to smoke, its the only responsible choice.

So common sense == factual?

Should people be allowed to be under the influence of caffeine while driving?

I'm just saying that it seems like people are quick to say the fault is with marijuana instead of people using it irresponsibly.

I used to be afraid of driving after vaporizing because I thought it would make me sluggish or slow to react. That seems like "common sense".

The reality, however, is I feel the same as I did while taking Concerta (an adhd medication), which I drove around under the influence of (legally) for years.

I'm not saying marijuana can't make things dangerous... I just really believe this is one of those topics that needs research rather than a snap judgment based on assumed circumstances and "common sense".

Remember... "common sense" is largely the reason that Marijuana is illegal in the first place.

Everyone has made great points but the fact is that I would rather be in total control of my car while I drive and all the situations that confront me. It IS your choice to do whichever you wish and there is no doubt that alcohol is a lot more of a problem than the herb.

Caffeine is a very different drug than marijuana.

We aren't blaming it on marijuana per se, we are blaming it on irresponsibility -- driving while impaired.

There has been plenty of research. It concludes impaired driving is dangerous, and an 100% avoidable risk.

Eh, not really. Marijuana is illegal for anything but 'common sense', a multitude of reasons from Big Pharma/Alcohol/Tobacco companies, as well as profiteering from prisons, etc. etc. Marijuana is illegal from a 'lack of sense'
