Default Decriminalization over legalization?

All this talk of legalizing marijuana makes perfectly sensible arguments, but they neglect the one thing that legalization would inevitably lead to: big business.

Do you think big business is a good thing for cannabis? Or will our beloved weed become a victim in similar situation to tobacco companies?

well the thing with legalization is that you could tax it
if there are laws passed to limit the size of the distributing companies
so there are hundreds if not thousands of small , competing companies
wich would keep quality high
and
prices low

Give me big business any day. Quality would go up and prices would go down. The availability would no longer be an issue. The selection would increase.
That would be the best thing since sliced bread and holes in Swiss cheese.

I don't give a damn about the presence of Big Business in my weed chain...

I'm a grower.

Am now, will be then, I grow sweet bud...

Decriminalization is a lack of freedom- someone decided to let the dopers smoke as long as they pay fines and stop making politically incorrect noises!

I'm a free man, Whether I smoke marijuana on my Sunday morning or tomato leaves is no business of the Government.

I don't want a favor from the politpeople- I want the freedom to make my own decisions- in my world, it's not their favor to do for me. It is my right.

Don't let them do you any favors, demand your rights and tell those who think they hold your rights in their hands and can parcel them out to you piecemeal to fuck off!

Just my take, and I'm a very libertarian type person. I hope that helps-

(Wow, I've cussed in a post, I must mean it...)

Be well

Kelly

I think we'll have both big and small businesses involved in it.

You'll have Budweiser, which will be the same everywhere in the world, identical. Then you'll have regional Microbreweries, with regional flavor.

That would be a shame. How would we deal with efficient production and distribution, a consistent product, and a 90% drop in price?

If anyone who wants to can produce marijuana, where's the problem? If you don't like Big Tobacco's products, there are small producers or you could grow your own. There would be a market for all kinds of marijuana.

You can grow your own tobacco. You can make your own wine and beer. Few people bother to do so because it's more convenient to purchase products made relatively cheap by the efficiencies of scale in production. Some would go with the "vin ordinaire" of marijuana. Some would go with the gourmet brands. Some would elect to tend their own gardens.

Well, big business would be inevitable. As Trocisp pointed out though, you would have 'big business' and 'small business'. You'd also have regional business, for instance Alaskan specialty shops. It wouldn't hurt marijuana, those that wish to grow their own would be allowed to and those that would rather purchase it could.

I wouldn't mind it at all, marijuana in my eyes is similar to any other product I would wish to purchase, be it a Coca-cola or a DVD. I'd desire a wide selection of consistently high quality reasonably priced products, and big business can deliver that. I'd expect my product to be organic as well.

My concern regarding legalization is that businesses would start putting all kinds of chemicals in marijuana. They add shit to cigarettes to make them taste better and raise the levels of nicotine, I'm afraid they'd also put additives in weed to make it more addictive.

I suppose you could always buy it from organic stores to avoid that, though.

They probably wouldn't though. One of the biggest appeals about marijuana, when compared to other drugs, is that it is "all-natural" or even "made by God."

Adding chemicals wouldn't be the most popular thing to do. Besides, even if they did, you could buy from companies that didn't.

The word "chemical" doesn't have to be so bad. THC is a chemical too! Some chemicals could be harmless to the body but help the joint burn evenly, things like that....
