Question Anyone know of a respectable Marijuana Documentary?

I was hoping to find a respectable marijuana documentary which I could hold on to and show to various friends and family that don't understand what marijuana and hemp are.

I thought I came across it with a movie called "Magic Weed - The History of Marijuana"... it was apparently done by IMAX.

Long story short... it was stupid. All the information was true (as I have read about it in other information peices), but the people they chose to present the information were either un-named "historian" looking people sitting in rooms full of big books or in fields..... or stereotypical "pothead hippies" wearing political shirts or--in the case of the super stereotype--a tiny vest, long dirty hair, and missing several teeth.

I'm looking for something done professionally, like a real documentary. Full of facts, references, and big-wig professors/scientists.

A video of an unamed hippy talking about big corporations taking over the little guy will do little to sway anyone I know. lol.

It might be difficult to find a reputable documentary on youtube as this is not the preferred medium for Ph. D professors to get information across. However, the articles published on the matter by such researches go way over the heads of the 'average' person, and wouldn't do you any good either.

I would suggest going to the local library and looking for a book about drugs published by doctors. One I know of is called "Buzzed" (link attached) and it describes facts about a wide spectrum of drugs. It's published by doctors, but published for normal people, so it will be easy to follow without using complicated terminology.

Although, Erowid does not recommend it, as stated, but look for similar books and the like.

I've got a couple dvd's on my shelf, namely "grass" and "leaves of green". The Grass one is pretty good (I think you get a copy of it when you donate a certain amount to norml)

The movie is 'Super High Me' and it would probably be a decent one to show to friends. If you were trying to get parents and family to understand your smoking then find another one because this movie follows Doug Benson (standup comedian) so there are various parts throughout the movie that make it seem more comical and whatnot. But they do consult real-life physicians and professionals so it is a great tool in that sense.

Super High Me--a comedy movie/"docmentary" about irresponsible Marijuana use--will hardly be worth showing people who think only social deviants use Marijuana.

On a side note, as was recommended to me via PM... "In Pot We Trust" was an *amazing* documentary. Shows both sides of the argument very well.

I'm attempting to download it off a torrent site (you can't seem to buy it)... but it's going to take days.

not sure if you're familiar with Penn and Teller's Bullshit but they did an episode on the war on drugs which is pretty good.
Penn & Teller and Walter Cronkite On "The War on Drugs" | Yoism

Also on that page is an article written by Walter Cronkite on how the war on drugs has failed.

Edit: Just finished re-watching the video and I think it would be very good to show your parents. It is very informative about the whole drug war as a whole and has many good points specifically about the ganj. It ends with a guy smoking a joint outside the white house, and one outside the capital building. He is one of seven people still on the Federal medical marijuana program. It was started in the 80's and shut down in 1992. Thirty members at its peak and currently seven whom are active until they die.

Are you neglecting the fact that they have TRAINED and QUALIFIED professionals running pre/post tests on Benson and displaying the results of heavy marijuana use?

Are you neglecting the fact that your average anti-marijuana person will be looking for any reason to discredit such a documentary, and though Super High me does have good bits of data in it, it's incased in stoner-comedy which would turn off, let's say, a parent/grandparent?

Super High me was never meant to be the end-all of marijuana debate and discussion. It was done as a stoner-flick. I watched it. I loved it. But I'm realistic enough to know it doesn't stand a chance in an academic environment (which is the type of documentary I was looking for).

Hell... I'm a hardcore pro-marijuana advocate, and even I had doubts in the back of my head when it came to the various methods/tests they did on the guy. A pure-blood drug-war enthusiast wouldn't be moved in the slightest bit.

Please read my post in where I said that 'Super High Me' was a video to show to your friends who do not smoke if anyone at all. I also said I would hold back from ever showing it to a parent or family member.
