Default REEFER MADNESS IS SUCKS..plus some.

Okay here’s the deal. I recently started smoking pot regularly (just about once a day) a little under a year ago. Within in that year a lot of stuff has changed with my smoking routine and the effects of the drug on my “state of mind”. I’m gonna give ya’ll a little background on myself… cause I really need somewhere to vent…and unfortunately none of my friends here at home are willing to listen or they just don’t understand my situation (and I really like this forum community! Potsmokers are some of the nicest and insightful godamned people on our planet). I recently got out of a four year stint in the military about a year ago, moved into an apartment for dirt cheap rent close to home and it’s right above a restaurant. I wait tables in that restaurant, so the living arrangement seemed like a pretty sweet deal…and it was. My roommate would do the usual stoner shit listen to music, play video games, “philosophize” about the world…spend a ton of fucking money on delivery pizza. Until one day a couple months ago my boss confronted me. He told me that some of the early morning chefs (these guys come in at 4 in the morning, the restaurant opens at 8!) smelled marijuana coming from my apartment. The thing about my boss is; he’s my landlord and a very close family friend to my mother. We had a discussion about how it was bad for business if customers came outside and smelled the drug outside the restaurant, which I understand…the unfortunate stigma that has been attached to hemp is disgusting, but it is a part of our society and it has to be taken into consideration. But I wasn’t lighting up in the middle of a dinner rush…I WAS WORKING…I wasn’t having a goddamned bakefest in the middle of the very busy Sunday morning brunch hours.. I usually smoked late at night. But that didn’t matter. Anyways, my boss told my mom, which really really sucked. I have a very close relationship with my mother, and for her to hear that her veteran son was following the path my poor older brother followed (he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, doctors believe it was linked to very heavy drug use ie… meth and coke) really upset her. She told she was disappointed in me and that marijuana “is a gateway” drug yatta yatta yatta. So I told her I would stop…because she wanted to hear that. Long story short…if I get caught smoking…I lose my job, my apartment and my moms trust. Since this whole incident I kept up with my daily smoking and I haven’t been caught. But because of the situation i am in I have been stricken by ridiculous paranoia attacks while high. It really sucks! I know some of you if not all of you have had at least 1 bad experience with the pot. It doesn’t happen all the time…I use a mute now when ever I smoke (dryer sheets and a paper towel tube…fuckin amazing! Try it if you haven’t, it’s actually surprisingly effective!!) or I wait till the restaurant is completely closed and I smoke in peace. But if I light up and my boss’s/landlords truck is parked outside the only thing I can think about is how fucked I am, and unfortunately these are the instances where marijuana’s mind expanding side effects turn from great to shit. I just wish I could smoke in peace and enjoy my self. Holy crap! I was originally going to write about the negative stigma movies the reefer madness has effected our society today, and this rant happened. I’m not sure how many of you guys made it this far in my post…but if you did, thank you! If you have any advice please go right ahead, I would greatly appreciate it. But like I said…FUCK REEFER MADNESS! That movie is proof that we live in a brain washed society! I truly believe that movie was one of the most powerful propaganda tools of time! It has shaped the god fearing “good” American into the close minded fools they became…the “Good” American that raised our parents, that are raising us. Fortunately the “hippie” happened in the 60’s and 70’s so it isn’t the whole country rooting against the drug like it once was. funny though…the side effects mentioned in that movie changed from “Ravaging murdering sex fiend beast”…to “lazy stupid communist terrorist funding scourge of our youth”. Reefer madness is funny because it showed how ignorant people could be…but it truly is sad that there blatant brainwashing propaganda had the effects it did. Because now I am sitting here wanting to light up my bowl and watch the great plains episode of planet earth…BUT I CANT!!!! Because it is IL-FUCKN-LEGAL!!!. Stupid reefer madness.

Hey if you read this whole damn post you rock! Comments would be awesome I want to see what you guys think…and I’m happy to be part of this little online community!

I would find another place to live, first of all. If your boss's only problem with your smoking is that he can smell it, then cool. A new abode would solve two worries, not going to lose your apartment, not going to lose your job. If he still has a problem with you smoking even though you're not living above the restaurant, then find another job. As far as your mom goes, that's more difficult. Her opinion of pot is probably pretty set in stone because of the situation with your brother and all. I would take the route of proving to her that coke and meth did not cause your brother's affliction. I've known four or five people that were paranoid schizophrenic, and they all had problems with coke, crack and meth. The drug use was actually a sypmtom of their affliction because it brought temporary relief (so I've been told). In other words, the drugs did not cause your brother's sickness, the sickness caused your brother to use drugs. The best weapon against misinformation is respectable fact. Maybe you can expose your mother to the true facts about weed.

As far as dealing with paranoia while stoned, that's just something you have to work out for yourself. I had the same problem when I first started smoking daily. I finally realized that the consequenses, while inconvenient, where not really that big of a deal. While your parents might be disappointed, you have to remember that it's only because they have false conceptions about what your doing. As far as anybody else, the worst thing that can happen is something involving law enforcement, and as long as you're not selling, legal troubles stemming from weed basically boil down to time and money (time going to court or probation and money for legal fees and fines). The days of going to actual prison and doing time for just smoking weed are behind us (or so I desperately would like to believe).

Anyway, chill out man. Don't let everyone elses hang-ups get you down.

I read your whole post.

I = rock!

But really man. You have military experience. That looks really good in a resume. Take the time while you are still working at this restaurant and make a really good resume, search around for very good paying jobs.(You might just need to stop smoking for 30days - not the end of the world - or purchase a drug test kit) While you have a new and better job, you could look for a better apartment or house and smoke in peace.

As far as your mother. kcbennie pretty much covered it. Every case is different, we have had some members in here sit down with their parents and really have a heartfelt conversation with them, and the truth about it. Having facts in front of you won't hurt as well.

Good luck friend, and welcome to the forums!

Why not just stand up for yourself, be honest with everyone, and be cool. And before ya'll freak out, just tell your Mom and your Boss you smoke pot. You completed the Military, awesome. You got a job, great. You pay your rent, and other bills. Good, fine man. You smoke pot. Where is the problem?

The answer seems simple to me. Did I miss something? It seems to me that all you need to do is smoke somewhere other than your apartment. Be careful and no one needs to know that you are a smoker.

I would NOT to this! Unless you know for a fact that they would be cool about it... because from what I could tell from your (long as hell) story, they probably care that you smoke. I'd do what Buzzby said and smoke somewhere else (DON'T SMOKE AND DRIVE! SET A GOOD EXAMPLE). Just because you can't smoke in the apparent though doesn't mean you should move out. You have a job, a roof over your head and the opportunities to smoke... what else do ya need? You should definitely keep your job, unless of course a better opportunity arises.

I don't know if I love or hate the comment "lazy stupid communist terrorist funding scourge of our youth" (I realize you were quoting something). I love it because it cracks me up that people could possibly think this way. If MJ is a scourge of our youth, then alcohol and cigarettes must be a (more dangerous and deadly) scourge of our adults! As I've said in other posts, I think pre-adults (under 17) should avoid drugs and alcohol because not only are they still growing (physically and mentally), but they should be trying to figure out what to do with their lives and save the drinking and smoking for when you're out of High school. MJ only funds "terrorists" because the government doesn't take that funding away from them by legalizing MJ in some way.

I hate that quote though, because that is some of the typical thinking of someone who hasn't tried MJ and is still against it. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER PEOPLE! I am proud to have used MJ because I am no longer blinded by the lies about it that have plagued the minds nay-sayers. I also used to be against MJ because I thought it was just like cocaine and other hard drugs... LIES!! I don't regret (and never will regret) trying MJ!!!

Hope everything works out well!

Peace,
Jew

reefer madness is hilarious. Your situation, not so much. If you were in the military for 4 years they must have given you some kind of life training. You served the country for 4 years, waiting tables should be below your skill level. Find a better job, Get a better place to live, live your life the way you want.

I appreciate all the advice! Carlover, I agree with you, I really should stand up for myself. Eventually I’ll get myself financially stable enough to do so…but for now this is the only apartment I can afford that is close to the college I go to…and the landlord said he’d boot me if he heard anything else about marijuana smoking. And kcbennie, I’m gonna have to do some more research on my brothers condition; you could very well be right. But unfortunately the doctors threw the blame on a very simple answer when they were asked “how did this happen???”. As for the quote on mj’s effects I made it up based on ridiculous stereotypes, it makes me sick! Our country started this ridiculous campaign against the drug over money. So they made up crap like “pot funds terrorism” and “Pot makes you a moron” “if you smoke pot you’re a lazy asshole that won’t contribute to society” and generations of people bought it…and black listed the drug…yet alcohol and cigarettes are still legal? But yep
