Exclamation H.r. 5842

Just found this, thought I ought to share.

https://secure2.convio.net/mpp/site/...rAction&id=181

This is the link to MPP site where you can send an email, just like for HR 5843, but this one is the Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act, a bit more important to protect the patients then our stoner rights.

I sent an email to my Congressman, Don Young, this is what I got back...

Thank you for your recent communication concerning the legalization of marijuana. I appreciate hearing from you on this subject.
H.R. 5843, the Act to Remove Federal Penalties for the Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults, would eliminate federal penalties for the possession and distribution of small amounts of marijuana. This bill would also eliminate federal penalties prohibiting the personal use and possession of up to 3.5 ounces of marijuana, and allow the transfers of up to one ounce of marijuana provided no profit was earned.

I have long opposed any move to legalize drugs. I believe the legalization of drugs would jeopardize the health of our citizens, most notably our children. Those drugs that are currently illegal have been made so because they pose serious, often fatal, health risks to the user, and drug users themselves often pose serious risks to society. It is my fear that the proponents of drug legalization have latched on to the marijuana-as-medicine argument in order to further their own decriminalization agenda. If they were truly concerned about the health of chronically ill patients, they would encourage the use of legal medication that contains synthetic forms of the supposedly beneficial components of marijuana. They have not done this; so all the talk about suffering patients is nothing more than a red herring.
Decriminalization is not a universal remedy for solving all of the problems related to drug use. Statistics have shown that once something is legalized, more people have access to it, and more will use it. It is safe to say the same thing would occur once marijuana is legalized.
As marijuana use rises with legalization, so would the increased costs of health care and lost productivity. Marijuana is hardly a harmless substance. At best, it is a plant, which is smoked in a filterless manner, which is detrimental for the lungs. At worst, it remains a relatively unknown substance. Prolonged use of marijuana has been shown to cause memory loss and other negative cognitive side effects and reduce coordination and communication skills. Finally, it is addictive, and has been known as a "gateway drug," which leads users to "harder" substances.
Finally, despite the fact that state law in California and Arizona permit "medicinal" use of marijuana, such practice remains a violation of federal law. Moreover, there is conclusive evidence that links drug cartels and suppliers to international organized terrorism, even in the marijuana market. For these reasons, federal law enforcement activity in the interdiction and seizure of marijuana is not only a proper use of police resources, it is entirely appropriate given the current state of affairs, in which we live.

Once again, thank you for expressing your views on this issue. If you haven't already, I would encourage you to sign up for my e-newsletter at Write to Representative Don Young and my YouTube channel at YouTube - RepDonYoung's Channel. Doing so will allow me to provide you with updates on this and other important issues. If I can be of any assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
DON YOUNG

Congressman for All Alaska

I don't know if I should respond or barf in a bucket.

Don Young is terrible;

He's a huge advocate for drilling in ANWR, approved of the Bridge to Nowhere (a 223 million dollar bridge to an island of 50 people -- total waste of money), he's under investigation (him and Ted Stevens, Alaskas Senator) for bribery and corruption.
Oh, did I mention he was listed as the 3rd worst Congressman and his nickname is Mr. Pork?

Honestly, I think if I spent 10 hours writing up the best response humanely possible, he'd probably wipe it with his conceited, corrupted, crusty ass then flush it down the toilet laughing.

Yeah and its much like the days of Al Capone and other rum-runners. The only reason why there are drug cartels is because of the want for drugs. Simple supply and demand Mr. Pork.

Sprial what your congressmen said to you was bullshit.

Do your thing and respond showing him all of his fallacies.

Very little of what he told you actually makes sense.

Oh, I plan on it. I'm already formulating my response to send out this weekend.

This part in particular made me chuckle : At best, it is a plant, which is smoked in a filterless manner, which is detrimental for the lungs. At worst, it remains a relatively unknown substance.

What a dolt....

Please, everyone, send out a letter, email, or even call your representatives and voice your opinion on this Decriminalization bill!

Yes every person on this site should send a letter to their congressmen.

Also their is a group on facebook if anyone is interested its called "Support of HR 5842 & 5843." Its not like the group is going to help this pass, but if you invite your friends it will might make some of them aware of the injustice going on.

Im in the process of writing a personalized letter to my congressmen. Im sure i will get something just like what sprial got (i mean he lives in AK a good state for pot and i live in GA one of the worst) but its not going to hurt.

This is the same story on a different site. The interesting thing about this link is the poll below the story. I hope everyone here is voting. We need to get that link passed around the site and get that "Yes" vote even higher than it already is (78%). Let's try for 85%. GO VOTE!!!!!

Well, I've typed up a rough-draft for my letter to Don Young.

It's kind of hard, he is wrong on so many things and I need to cite and explain all the corrections. I sure hope he reads it, I'm not sure he'd reconsider, but I think that it's best for him to at least know he is obviously misinformed.

I'll be editing it over this weekend.

C'mon guys, this is my first time I have expressed my feelings with a representative at the federal level. Let's get off our butts and do something, eh?

Does anyone have any pointers they could provide for a first-time? I know a lot of people here have probably done it before and I'd appreciate anything you have to say, it could help us all. Any of the 'oldheads' or even anyone else please, chime in.

on the site, the polls are amazing. 76% of 150,339 people said they wanted pot to be decriminalized. i think that's pretty awesome
