Default DEA Drug Scheduling

I was looking at this link DEA, Drug Scheduling

I thought marijuana was at least schedule 2, this means the Fed's see no medicinal value in marijuana. How the hell did this occur? Even with all the scientific research the US just bats a blind eye?

I knew there was a lot of naivety in our drug war philosophy, but this just makes it blatantly obvious that we are far behind in doing any social progress.

Hell yeah! We can go around giving them Indian burns, fighting some of them off with musket guns, and end with a thrilling nun chucks show. Fuck yeah/.

It's been that way since scheduling was set up under the Controlled Substances Act in 1971.

Cocaine is a drug which is used medically as a local anesthetic for eye and nose surgery. Crack is cocaine. Methamphetamine is also a Schedule II drug - it's used for narcolepsy.

Heroin and all opiates are also Schedule II!

Not only is marijuana Schedule I, but the definition does not include an exception for industrialized hemp. This makes it very difficult for farmers to get a permit to grow industrialized hemp, as it is not cost effective given the strenuous regulation under Schedule I.

The Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs does have an exception for industrialized hemp. The Controlled Substances Act is the US law which implements the US SCND treaty obligations, but the US did not include the same industrial hemp exceptions. There are also exceptions in the treaty for medicinal use, and some countries interpret the treaty as having an exception for personal use as well.
