I know the history and the story behind how Cannabis became illegal here in the USA. But how did so many other countries make it illegal.

I'd say it was mostly foreign aid that the U.S. sends to other countries. A few years ago Jamaica wanted to legalize it because it is so widespread, but the U.S. envoy was sent down to see them with a blunt ultimatum from the U.S......Make herb legal and we'll cut off your foreign aid.

Since they couldn't survive without the aid they said fine. I have heard but have no proof that the police simply ignore it for the most part. Once something is so prevelant in society you must simply allow it or you will go under prosecuting and jailing the ones you see as guilty.

But, back to the subject, it's mostly money coming from us and going to them. We support their governments so we can continue to make a profit off of them. We are friends with the Saidi's because they want our military protection to keep some other government from coming in and taking what they have.

Russia and China are major players in the Middle East. If you check the markings on the rifles they use you will see two different kinds of writing most of the time. Chinese or Russian.

It's sinister, but goes back a lot farther in time.
Blame the League of Nations.
In the mid '20's, Egypt's Health Minister, told rapt members of the League about the horrible dangers posed by Hashish. Yep! Drug Czar bullshit. Different country, different time. Same crapola.
Most League member nations took preventative action against Cannabis and it's derivatives. Britain actually preceded the states on this, making it illegal almost a decade before the Yanks.
Other countries followed suit.
The irony is that the U.S. was sort of a straggler behind other countries in outlawing "Indian Hemp" as it was then called.
