So I got an email from MPP today inviting me to enter a competition to win free tickets to their 4th Annual party at the Playboy Mansion....


This seemed to send a really mixed signal to me. MPP always appeared to be one of the most professional and diligent organizations out their (one of my favorites) but this kind of confuses me, and I'm sure for a lot of people 'on the fence', it doesn't help our cause....

What do you guys think? Throwing this party probably cost a lot money, and it's undoubtedly a 'who's who' type event, but what does it accomplish? I donate pretty often to this organization and it sickens me thinking it could be used on some ice sculpture at the party or expensive hor'deurves for munchies....

I understand a lot of MJ initiatives just passed, but we are kind of a far ways away from a 'real celebration'. I think it just seems extremely trivial, and frankly, a waste of money, money that could be used to further our goals of legalization.

What 'pimp' is hosting it? It appears they are funding it themselves, or at least I've seen nothing otherwise....

By the way, its 700 bucks a ticket.

I don't like this because I think it sends a bad image, but that's just my personal opinion. I'm glad I only donate to NORML now.

I want them to explain to me exactly how this is helping to legalize marijuana.

The Playboy Mansion is a house no different from my house or yours. they call it that cause Hue Hefner owns playboy hence Playboy Mansion. The party has been hosted there before and yes the tickets are high priced cause i think there trying to bring in the big players from around the country. This isn't for us 15 dollar donators here and there. There not saying were not important but people that can afford to go here will usually donate way more than the ticket price. same happens with fundraisers of other kinds. Again it's not no different than those.

i see no big deal with it. ever pick a playboy up and a penthouse up, playboy is art not smut (also they have some pretty good articles to read to). I take it you have a problem with women posing and you think it is degrading (just a guess), cause i don't see a wrong message but y'all said it and please explain cause I'm not seeing it. I'm not trying to pick a fight but i would like an answer if you would.

Yes, I have seen both magazines.

Most of the time, only a guy would say that. Even my husband laughed at that one.

Actually, I don't have a problem with a woman posing, if that is what she wants to do. It's her choice. A lot of people do see Playboy, and especially Penthouse, as smut. My personal thinking is, I don't want marijuana associated with something that a lot of people consider "bad," or "smutty."

It's an uphill battle to get marijuana legalized, or even decriminilized. I'm thinking, why make it harder by doing things like this? <---rhetorical question. I just think it sends the wrong message. That's my personal opinion.

I'm guessing they're using some of their funds to host the party in hopes of getting higher returns. Like a fundraiser using money donated to multiply the initial amount by 3+. I personally don't have a problem with it, but then again it's not my money, I've only donated to norml as well.

Nope, I don't. I have no problem with Playboy. What a women chooses to do with her body is her choice, just as me choosing to use MJ is my choice -- your opinion shouldn't influence my decision.

The thing is, by hosting the MPP at the Playboy mansion, they are associating an organization on marijuana policy reform, with well, titties. It just seems in poor taste.

I'm sure it brings in a lot of revenue, but do they really have to hold it somewhere controversial like the Playboy mansion? Think of the message they are trying to send, and how it might hurt that message.

It just seems like the negative stigma that might arise isn't worth it... find somewhere more neutral to host the party (not to mention "$ave for the cau$e").
