| well i got curious if they were going to move or get stuffed somewhere, so i googled it and it looks like they went one step further. both are moving to committee. H.R. 5842 [110th]: Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act (GovTrack.us) H.R. 5843 [110th]: Act to Remove Federal Penalties for the Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults (GovTrack.us) Bill 5842: Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act - Transfers marijuana from schedule I to schedule II of the Controlled Substances Act. Provides that no provision of the Controlled Substances Act or the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act shall prohibit or otherwise restrict, in a state in which marijuana may, under state law, be prescribed or recommended by a physician for medical use: (1) a physician from prescribing or recommending marijuana for medical use; (2) an individual from obtaining, possessing, transporting, manufacturing, or using marijuana in accordance with such a prescription or recommendation; (3) an individual authorized under state law to do so from obtaining, possessing, transporting, or manufacturing marijuana on an authorized patient's behalf; (4) a pharmacy or other entity authorized to do so from obtaining, possessing, or distributing marijuana to such patients; or (5) an entity established by such a state or local government thereof to do so from producing, possessing, or distributing marijuana for such a prescription or recommendation. HR 5843: Act to Remove Federal Penalties for the Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults - Prohibits the imposition of any penalty under an Act of Congress for the possession of marijuana for personal use or for the not-for-profit transfer between adults of marijuana for personal use. Deems the possession of 100 grams or less of marijuana as personal use (one ounce or less for a not-for-profit transfer between adults). Allows the imposition of a civil penalty under the Controlled Substances Act for the public use of marijuana if such penalty does not exceed $100. nothing major but at least there moving. one small step at a time. lets hope they make it another step |

| well like i said this is one step out of about 6, time will tell. we have to push the issue to the forefront and keep it there without backing down. that's a must. there lies are running out and matter of fact they have run out and now they just refuse to deal with us. we got them where we want them now we have to push harder. |

| What I find interesting is if you go to THOMAS and look at the bills you can see who cosponsored them. HR 5842 has 23 cosponsors, 7 of which are from California. HR 5843 only have 7 cosponsors. It would be nice if both of those bills passed the House and went on to the Senate, but it's a long road. The best we can do is be as vocal as possible, support groups like Norml & MPP, try and educate people about the facts of marijuana vs. the propaganda myths, and try and stop drawing negative attention to marijuana. Stupid YouTube videos of dumb asses smoking marijuana doesn't help our cause. Granted there are some educational ones, but a lot of dumb ones as well. |

| I'm very excited about this. I really hope it passes the committee. The largest obstacle would be getting Obama to sign this; as he has already answered a public outcry for legalization with a preemptive and simple "no". I hope that if it passes the committee on health and then congress then Obama will be swayed not to veto. Quote:

| Doesn't seem too messed up to me. It's like reformatting your computer or cleaning your gutters- getting rid of useless stuff that's just been sitting around being ignored and gunking up the system. If there had been action on this bill, it wouldn't have been swept away with the rest, and it was purposefully ignored because the sponsors believed it would never succeed under the last administration. Basically, it seems to me like it's a fresh start for the bills. They probably will be reintroduced- it wasn't like they were shot down or anything, and even then, many bills get reintroduced with minor changes to them.
