| It's time to end the failed, destructive policy of marijuana prohibition. Tell Obama and your elected representatives that marijuana should be legalized and taxed. |

| I did it. I ended my letter with "It is time." . Its short and catchy right? Dont be fooled by the new pro-pot group. Its yet another anti-drug war propaganda bid. Look closely on their site. It says they are for a lotta things, including ending the drug war. This is yet another agency/group blurring rational marijuana law reform with legalizing everything...and they are just gobbling potheads up by the thousands. What do you think nixon talked about in response to pressure to legalize marijuana? He said no, legalizing drugs is bad. He got away with it by grouping pot with everything. Pot will remain illegal for milenia if people keep grouping legalizing pot with legalizing all drugs. Period end of discussion. Last edited by jpbc99 : 04-02-2009 at 06:13 PM. |

| Same prohibition, different drug. Does not work. Has never worked. Will never work. You have the same mindset against heroin that the general public has against marijuana. The only difference being heroin actually is detrimental to health. All drugs should be a health issue, not a criminal one.

| Hello, I am writing to you because I know you understand what we are saying. Marijuana is less harmful than both alcohol and cigarettes combined. I smoke marijuana regularly and maintain a 97% average in high school and earned a 2080 on my SATs. I am accepted into Penn State University, and my grades have gone up since I started smoking marijuana. I understand you want to keep marijuana less available to teens, but this is not the way to do it. I can tell you first hand that it is easier for me to obtain the illegal drug marijuana than the legal drug alcohol. Why is this? Because a long time ago politicians came to their senses and made alcohol a legal, yet still dangerous drug that could be regulated, taxed, and sold to anyone over the age of 21 (well, eventually). Not only will legalizing marijuana make marijuana use less prevalent among teens, it will end any effect marijuana has as a "gateway drug" for teens. The single reason that marijuana is considered a "gateway drug" is because of it's illegality. This classification groups it with more harmful, dangerous, and addicting drugs than marijuana. If marijuana were to become legalized, it would end all association with these substances and thus will not get teens into illegal drugs. The illegality of marijuana also creates corruption and violence through underground markets. Responsible adults use marijuana every day. Do you think they enjoy buying their drugs from criminals? No, they do not. They would very much appreciate to be giving their money to the government instead of the drug cartels in Mexico. But this is not up to them, it is up to you. Finally, there are millions of people out there suffering from diseases that marijuana can be used to treat. In fact, most people prefer the use of marijuana over drugs with unwanted side effects such as opiates. But these people in nearly 40 states cannot get their most effective and desired medication because the drug is illegal. You asked America to vote for you because you represented change. I see no change on this issue; all I see is you laughing in our faces. Hundreds of thousands of people are ARRESTED for using this near harmless drug while other citizens sit in pubs, getting drunk out of their minds. I know you know what the right move in this situation, and that is to stop being a COWARD and give us change we can believe in. The times are changing, the media is starting to move behind us full swing - you will not be ostracized for supporting this beneficial movement. I beg you Mr. Obama, please listen to the people of your country. Stop feeding us propaganda and ruining lives for absolutely no reason. Sincerely, An avid pot smoker with goals in life (and there's plenty more out there) What you guys think before I send this baby off? |

| jpbc99 Your points against them are my points for supporting them. We will have to agree to disagree. In my debates, I've been able to show the harm done by the prohibition of all drugs and can thus more easily make the point of just how absurd the prohibition of simply cannabis is... How mean spirited and agenda driven any prohibition of drugs is. It's only about five minutes from there to the dawning realisation that we are doing the wrong thing across the board. And that total legalization and the commensurate state regulation of all drugs is the only way forward if your goal is truly to eliminate gang turf warfare, turn back the civil rights erosions and provide treatment where needed instead of incarceration. If your goal is only to secure a non arrestable status for yourself as a marijuana user, then you are probably justified (If in error) in your viewpoint and warnings- I will say it again, though. That's incredibly self serving, short sighted and basically. Selfish. But, every one has their own viewpoint. Much luck Kelly Last edited by KWhite : 04-03-2009 at 06:29 AM. | |

| This is a marijuana forum. If you want all drugs legal, go to those forums. My viewpoint is not selfish. Yours on the other hand, is why I can't go to the store and buy my pot. In all honesty, if there are more people like you out there than I think that want to legalize all drugs, then I would rather marijuana remain illegal. There, I said it. Thats how strongly I feel against legalizing hard drugs. YOUR FUCKING RUINING THE BEST CHANCE EVER TO LEGALIZE POT!!! You realize that? Quote:

| The difference I see between marijuana and other drugs is that other drugs are much more dangerous than marijuana. Marijuana is nearly harmless and hardly addicting. You cannot say the same for heroine, which is why heroine, in my opinion, should not be legalized. |
