| I am sure that someone thinks that, but I think they are far and few between. I think if they legalized less hard drugs then hard drug crime would fall... but I think if crack were legalized we'd see a lot more homeless crazy people...

| I don't think anyone has the right to tell anyone else what they do to their own bodies, so yes, I think all drugs should be legalized, and I think doing so would better society. |

| I mean when it come to legalizing pot im all for it, but when they want to legalize other drugs it makes me wonder you know...I mean in the long run it sound like legalizing drugs may be a good thing but it will probably start out bad. I mean my sisters life was almost ruined because of hardcore drugs so thats why im probably against it. I mean all heroin addicts think about is getting that next fix and nothing more. And plus i still think there is going to be violence anyways. |

sorry, that was worded poorly. when I said "less hard drugs" I meant drugs that are not hard drugs, not only some hard drugs. however I don't think anyone argues that if we legalized marijuana we would have less pot heads. | |

| This is a watershed in a lot of people's fundamental philosophies. There isn't necessarily a "right" and a "wrong" answer. I know I've flip-flopped on this issue a number of times as I've matured. Should our government make decisions for us? Is it the government's job to protect us from making decisions it decides aren't beneficial? That mother we've been discussing might see a pack of heroin at the gas station and buy it, and go on to become addicted and ruin her life. Obviously this wouldn't be the average case, but let's run with this example. Our hypothetical mother blows her life savings on heroin, loses her job, and ODs. Is that her right? Are we free to hurt ourselves and throw our lives away, if that's what we want to do? Where do you draw the line when it comes to personal freedom? |

| I honestly believe it'd be the best option, because, for example, even if crack was legal, I wouldn't do it, since I know the consequences of that act. But the people that do it, illegally, as it is right now, would still do it, with the difference that the money they spend, won't spark more gang violence, he would also not get unpure crack for example. All the money recollected and saved from not jailing those persons, could be used in teaching healthy young people to distinguish between bad and good, to be able to investigate and learn before trying to do something. That'd be better. |

| As long as people are forced to know the dangers of what they're using, I'm all for it. Just because alcohol is legal doesn't mean everyone is drunk all the time. Much the same, legalizing LSD and heroin isn't going to send the country spiraling downward. Use will go up for sure, people try legal things. But as they lose their forbidden fruit status the appeal will fall. I grew up around alcohol, and so I just accepted it as part of life. I'm 18 and I've had less than one glass of beer in my life. If I grew up around ecstasy, I'm sure I wouldn't think anything of that either. I just don't want to drink alcohol right now, so I don't do it. However, I know people who don't enjoy Marijuana, but they do it anyway because it's illegal and "cool". Post summary: This.

| the most important thing to consider is that the illegality of drugs will never stop people from using. i believe as long as people are not a threat to society and can get their fix in the comfort of their own home, then they should be free to do whatever they want with their bodies. although it really would be asking a lot of some people to, for example, take heroin or meth responsibly (there are a lot of fucked up people in this country), there are still adults who can't drink alcohol or take prescription medications responsibly. we as a society of humans will never be completely error free, so i believe the best solution is to do all that we can to give drug users the safest scenario to use in. this means ridding the world of black markets, so drugs can be regulated and tested for safety. it still wouldn't be perfect, but a much greater improvement to our current policies.
