Cool Commercials?

This has been bothering me for some time, and I need to start a discussion basically to get some info for myself.
Since we are bombarded by commercials that are sponsered for a drug free america, would it be possible to run commercials for the legalization of medical herb?Did they have T.V. commercials for 215 in California when it was passed?
Would the T.V. stations have a recourse to not run the comms. for us becuase of the legal status of the herb?
All help apreciated.

Hey Dead Bear ,we are pushing petitions for a ballot proposal here in Mich. to legalize personal, industrial, and medical use . If we get enough signatures the voters will get to decide if the herb will be legal. I would expect to see commercials after we get enough signatures (over 300,000) to put the question before the voters . If everybody gets it together ,registers to vote , sign the petition, maybe donate a little money toward commercials and printing costs etc.

Cool Commercials

How about that couple who ran the ad in the paper about how they were pot smokers and they lived a normal life?I think this was so cool of them to come out like this and be open with their smoking.Great story on last weeks DRC net.

Howdy all, this is more in line with legalization rather than health and medicine. This catagory deals specifically with the medical properties of the plant, as well as conversation on various side effects from use. Legalization threads should stay in the legalization forum where they are more likely to get read and responded to. Please check there for further comments on this thread.

Peace

Running a controversial ad like that would piss off a lot of people, who would organize to boycott the broadcaster and its sponsors, so such an ad could never run, at least not on a mainstream network.

I do not see a boycott happening.
The government would issue a statement, a few letters to the editorial staff or headshed at the broadcaster.
ANd then they would ask if we had any more money to spend.
The public no more lives in a vacuum than we do.
And many are aware of the burgeoning debate.
I think it would be a great idea, start changing a few minds.

If we are talking advertising on major networks, I think this would be a waste of money and time. We can't compete with multi-billion dollar company's for air time. But that's all the better.

Let's let the media advertise for us. An example, who would of thought, putting an ad in your local paper about being a pot smoker, would generate so much news coverage. They way things are gong, with more and more public concern about the drug war, it doesn't take much to get our issues into the public spotlight.

I think we can best spread our message through advertisments in local and alternative newspapers.
But most of all, like any grassroots organization, by word of mouth.

P.S. The alternative newspaper in my community offers free ads to not- for -profits. Would a nationwide classified add program help build support for local chapters of NORML and other reform orgs.?

Cool How About This?

Classifieds would work at a grass roots level, perhaps, but why wouldn't the nationwide ad campaign work?I don't know if Norml has the money for this, but I do know that every once in a while I see an ad from them in a major periodical..
What I'd like to see is an ad on the national T.V. advocating medical marijuana. Is anyone from California, and did they run ads for Prop. 215 when it was coming up for a vote?I've always heard fight fire with fire and to me this seems like a good idea.
