| I've been thinking, and after reading up and listening to our politicians, I have seemed to reach the conclusion that, while strides towards legalization have been made, it seems like the only way for the War on Drugs to truly end is for the world to sink into what it did during the last Prohibition, rampant organized crime, even more so than what we have now, because the special interests within the war on drugs is so strong. I look at Mexico, and I fear that something like that could one day pick up in the United States, I have relatives in Northeastern Texas, and it is very possible that the violence could pass even further up the border. Looking at history, Prohibition stopped mainly because Al Capone types had so much power and influence in cities, and the respect for the law diminished. Do not think that I'm hoping for violence to pick up, as to I hope that it doesn't come to this, but with the situation in Mexico doesn't seem to be getting any better, and with this bad economy making the underground market is become more and more of a way for people to get money just to make ends meet, I wouldn't be surprised if history repeats itself again. Any thoughts? Is this the only way for the War on Drugs to end, or can the current method even work? |
