I've figured out why its illegal.

and no, its not because rich people are conspiring to kill us all.

If any one of you have worked in an office, or a business, you know exactly how decisions are made. The government, or businesses, change there rules and policies ONLY if there is a tangible, direct, benefit for the changer. Usually they want it quick.

Why in the hell would someone in the government, surrounded by so many different "public interest groups", try to change a law if there are so many people suddnely going to hate them? Notice how we don't really pin the blame on a politian, until he tries to change a law. Most people are semi-content, or at least adjusted, to a certain set of laws. WHen the law is going to be changed, both sides don't want to loose ground, so they set up a massive shit-storm followed by a shit-quake and shit-tsumnami

If you take a look at the history of anti-marijuana laws in this country, you will find that they were instituted at the behest of special interest groups (largely the pulpwood and chemical industries) to prevent new, less expensive methods of processing hemp fiber from negatively impacting their bottom lines.

The racist rhetoric was the excuse for passing the anti-marijuana laws. The reason
was economic. The special interest groups couldn't very well go before Congress and ask for cannabis to be made illegal because that would benefit their bottom lines.

That was exactly what I thought. I thought it was because most people who were using marijuana were the 'jazz' kind and were generally black. I thought marijuana was made illegal initially to stop white women from meeting black men.
