I think this post is a little misleading... As far as I know they are closing down coffeeshops within a certain distance to schools (which is probably a good idea). They are also cracking down on coffeeshops on cities near the border with other countries, because those countries complain that people are bringing drugs home with them, so the Netherlands is folding to pressure from their neighbours.

I was in Amsterdam last year, I have to say that it is probably the coolest place I've ever been. It beats anywhere I've been in North America or Europe. The city is filled with canals, basically streets of water (It's called venice of the north), there are bike paths everywhere and it's rediculous how many people ride their bikes through town. It has to be the most chilled, laid back place I have ever been. Even if weed wasn't legal in Amsterdam I still think it would be one of the coolest places on earth, but thankfully it is.

I seriously doubt that they would re-criminalize marijuana, not once did I see "stoners" causing trouble, I visited probably 15 coffeeshops while I was there and every single one was friendly and totally chill. I think Amsterdam proves that marijuana being legal is not a threat to anyone, and infact the opposite, the whole city just felt friendly and laid back...it felt totally free.

Now I flew to Amsterdam from London, stayed there the week before and let me tell you, the amount of obnoxious drunks seriously detracted from that city (at night anyways). I love London, but I can only handle so many drunken fools screaming, fighting and making total fools of themselves. I totally believe that society picked the wrong recreational drug.
