Question

Not sure yet what decision they're leaning towards yet. It seems so far that they're more for not legalizing it, which is saddening to say the least. But there's still more debate to come, so I have my fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed that hopefully they'll see the light and, if not legalization on a full scale, at least some sort of solid regualtion of medical marijuana.

I wouldn't go so far as saying F the shops but definitely don't buy from tobacco companies selling packs of joints.

It is a little disheartening for sure. The woman talking about the various crimes committed in and around grow areas was really irritating to me because no one raised the point that people would stop buying from the Mexican cartels...it isn't very productive to grow thousands of plants when people won't be buying them.

I watched it live and have to say I'm not really that impressed with what I heard/saw. I didn't see any real debate. Just the same old "my turn to talk so here's where I stand, now it's your turn" just like on so-called live tv debates. Everyone says what they always say without any real discussion or debate. They just quickly spew out whatever it was they had memorized or sitting on a piece of paper in front of them. I heard a lot of broken sentences and half-hearted attempts at making points that left me feeling pretty uninspired to say the least.

Yes, I seen him in a few documentaries. Very good guy.

The public questions sure was entertaining. Especially the first guy.

Now that it's over, we sit and wait. Countless articles will be written about it, so I look forward to hearing there take on it.

Lightbulb Oh bother...

Well that's it for today. Everyone brought up good points, although I'm surprised no one brought up the fact of how many other uses there are for the plant. Making oil, cloth, food, paper, etc., is a good enough reason by itself to legalize it, if not only for those purposes. Legalization of smoking marijuana would be stupendous, but the cultivation and use of it in daily life would greatly improve the quality of life for many, many people. Actually now that I think about it the entire human race could benefit from it, no more fossil fuels, as marijuana is fully renewable, especially in the paper aspect of it. Trees take a century to get a good yield of wood pulp for making paper. The marijuana plant you could grow for a couple of months and get a good yield because of the massive numbers of plants you could grow. It's crazy to me to think that marijuana isn't legal already, at least in that sense. I think it's because of the massive amount of money the oil industry, the clothing industry, lumber mills, etc. would lose if the plant was legal, which is a bit sickening to think that in "the land of opportunity" people wouldn't grant other people opportunities to start their own businesses based on the cultivation and varied uses of the plant. Well anyway, there's going to be more hearings in January Tom Ammiano said, so let's hope that the powers at be really, truly consider everything said today and do the sensible thing and regulate and tax marijuana. That's all I've got for now.

It's important to differentiate between consumable cannabis (marijuana) and industrial cannabis (hemp). Hemp definitely has a large number of uses, but that strain of cannabis has been trained to be a much better/stronger industrial material with a MUCH lower THC level than consumable cannabis. In fact, if one were to toke on the industrial hemp plant, they would likely get sick before even feeling a buzz.

Also, several states have already legalized industrial hemp and are just waiting for the Feds to change their law before allowing cultivation. Oregon signed it into law last year and I'm pretty sure California already has it on the books.

That's probably why the topic wasn't brought up during this debate.
