Even though the other posters have already answered the question I'd also like to add my two cents.

It is ignorant for someone who smokes marijuana to not want it to be legalized. None of the OP's arguments are valid.
1. It is absolutely false that marijuana will cost more than it does now. The price of marijuana is grossly inflated due to it's being on the black market. Even with taxes the price of marijuana would be equal or more probably significantly less than it is now. Furthermore, much of the marijuana sold illegally in U.S. today is funding Mexican drug cartels and gangs throughout the U.S. Wouldn't it be worth paying more (which we absolutely would not) to take that money out of killers and rapists and instead putting it into our government that is in so much debt so that it may circulate it through the economy and save us from one of the greatest depressions our generation has ever seen? If marijuana was legalized you would also have the option to have a plant which would cost next to nothing to maintain.

2. There is no reason to believe that just because marijuana is legalized that additive will begin to appear in herb. I'm sure most of the smokers of the U.S. would not want the herb industry to end up like the cigarette industry. Even if that did happen I am absolutely positive that there will be stores that sell organic marijuana. Again, considering you can own a plant will fix this "problem" as well.

3. If there are people who only like marijuana because it's illegal they don't deserve to smoke it.The only people I can imagine who would like herb because it's illegal are punk kids who think that they are doing something cool. Note that a large part of the marijuana community are adults who don't think like this. If legalized, more people would smoke marijuana because it's legal. I don't know how to argue this without circular reasoning. It just makes sense. And if it were legalized why would we need support to legalize it? I think you have overlooked the fact that many people smoke for medical purposes and that almost 1 million people are arrested every year for marijuana charges. Are you telling me that every single person who could benefit from marijuana medically and every single person who is in jail because they smoke like marijuana being illegal? If some people only like marijuana because it's illegal, surely some people don't smoke because it's illegal.

4. We are very close to the legalization of marijuana. The fact that state governments are passing laws that contradict federal law proves that the people of the U.S. want a change. The fact that there are people in California that are legally smoking in their state is fact that we are close to legalization. If you can't see this then you're not looking hard enough.

I find this total post to be very infuriating. You are passing on false information and even if only one person believes what you say that's one person who has been falsely informed, one person who has become ignorant because of this post. Can you tell me why weed is illegal in the first place? The fact that the federal government is stopping it's people from doing something that is not harmful or dangerous is a strike against our personal rights. Legalizing marijuana would save thousands of lives from gang violence, would save millions of people who have been imprisoned for doing something that is not harmful to anyone, would save millions of people from feeling agonizing pain every day because they can't smoke to relieve it, would save millions of people from stress related disease. Not to mention the financial, political and emotional benefits. Oh, but yeah, I guess I can see your point. As if. No cheers for you.

Ive been arrested for possessing marijuana. I was pulled over about 8 years ago and after having my car searched a roach was found behind my seat. At the time i was in college to become a geologist. I was stripped of my scholarship and fafsa grant because of a roach. Im a stone mason now, so this was not much of an issue, given that in my line of work you only need to walk onto a site and ask for work to get a job. However, when the recession hit last year, work was hard to come by so i needed a second job. I applied at various businesses, including walmart, and none would give me a job. I know people with past dui convictions who had no problems getting hired there. It just doesnt seem right that a roach can haunt me for almost a decade. The weird thing is that i quit smoking for 7 years after getting caught(trying to conform), but all i did was become an overweight, unmotivated version of myself. after i couldnt get a job last year i woke up. I didnt just start smoking again, but i became an activist. i lost the weight, started living again, and reconnected with my past and myself. I wasnt wrong, they were and i am going to fight to prove it.

I feel you completely man. I havnt been stripped of a scholarship or anything b/c I was only 16, but if I was an adult it wouldve been a completely different story. My deepest sympathies are for you man that is just plain fucked up, and WRONG. Im hoping that when its legalized people who were put in jail for it (possession at least) are released, and that people who are in your situation will be able to get your damn scholarship back. I mean god damn, michael phelps smokes and hes the fucking aquaman of our time. Obviously this means you can smoke weed and still function. My best wishes are with you my friend.

Same here, I got possession and paraphernalia charge on my record. I have a dead-end job, and have recently been trying my ass off to get better employment. Alot of app's ask about misdemeanors and what not. Well, after applying so many times at a spot where I have more than enuff experience in, they still wont hire me. I ask a friend that works there to check into it, and they tell me str8 out that it's because of the drug charges. Another friend of mine who works in human resources recently told me most business' and companies overlook things like dui and are very strict when it comes to ANY type of drug charges. They don't want to hire "junkies" or "drug addicts". Blows my mind!

The same happened to a friend of mine. Guy is smarter than fuck and went to college, graduated and all that. Tried his ass off to get a good job, and he ended up having to go to court to clear the possession charge off his record (I didn't know you could do this, but I guess if your record has been clean since, and you have good reason, you can clear it).

I aint no "junkie" or "drug addict". I've been sober from alcohol for almost a year now, and I aint looking back. I smoke weed. Fuckn' aye it should be legalized!

If legalized, weed won't cost more because eliminating the black market and the associated crime is a huge argument for legalization. If legal weed costs more than black market weed, the black market will still thrive, negating the legalization. It makes no sense to legalize weed and then just allow prices to rise enough to keep the black market running.

Without black market inflation, I believe prices won't be near as high as they are now but I feel the above point should mentioned also. Everyone else has done a great job disproving the OP and I won't bother reiterating everything else that's already been said.
