It's illegal because the kingpins purposfully perpetuate a bad image of it. Hence, if it isn't legal, they can sell it without taxes. No taxes means higher profit. Also, I think this was said before but I'll say it again, the government doesn't want to admit they've been wrong all these years. In the '30s a man owned a paper company which was being driven out by hemp, which was more cost effective, easier to produce, and was better in general. He was friends with politicians. He convinced a politician friend on congress to advocate for him and the paper industry (without actually saying this was the real reason). Congress banned all forms of cannabis, using the effects of weed as a scapegoat, not the hemp driving out the paper industry. Some years later they unbanned the hemp but left the THC ban on, so they didn't look like they were wrong all these years. They think they'll have less legitmate image if they legalize and say they were wrong. They don't understand: WE DON'T CARE! MAKE IT LEGAL AND WE'LL FORGET ALL THESE YEARS OF PROHIBITION!! |
