I was thinking more along the lines of if the state in question began to regulate it in some form - like how California does with MMJ. The DEA would be all over that.

I suppose if there was no organized distribution within the state and was limited to the black market dealers, you would be correct - the feds would have their thumbs up their asses. But I think that would be completely counterproductive, as the common goal of legalization is to get it away from the black market. I think the only way around it would be if the majority grew their own and provided small gift amounts to friends, but even matters like this I could see the DEA trying to intervene to "make an example."

I chose Never, sadly, cause I don;t think it will ever be legalized. If we can't change the views of those who vote to pass the bills, and have a president that wont veto it, yeah it wont happen.

But im always optimistic

You'll be lucky if California is able to keep its MMJ program in its current condition the way people are feeling about it nowadays.

The U.S. makes alot of money by charging people with marijuana related crimes, so legalizing it would only make them lose money. Canada is already half way their to legalizing it.

They also spend a significant amount of money seeing that the marijuana laws are properly enforced. My belief is that this savings(if/when it is entirely legal, therefore unnecessary to be spent on enforcement), when coupled with the potential revenue received from taxation, is a deal the government can't afford not to enact.

I've read numerous reports that the major players fighting against mj legalization are the alcohol, tobacco, and pharmaceutical companies(due to inevitable loss of funds generated by their products as a result of legalization)...anyone care to confirm or rebutt this??

Yes. It's major companies I believe that keep the politicians in place. A simple whisper to a congressman's ear can change all kinds of laws. If the money is right.

I believe it's all the exact same way today, as it was made illegal 70 years ago. Greed.
