I think medical marijuana will be legalized within 5 to 7 years, but recreational use will take at least 10 years. I work as a Paramedic, and see what tobacco and alcohol does on a daily basis, so the disparity amazes me. My director of operations calls me the "resident pot-smoking hippie" at work. It's a mixed-message thing - he doesn't care what I do off-duty, but if we get into a wreck in the ambulance - even if we aren't at fault, we get a UDS done, and there goes my career.

I think it will be legalized once we truly show that marijuana users don't just waste their lives. Once people can accept that marijuana isn't dangerous and that alcohol and tobacco kill millions of loved ones everyday.

It seems like the US government will do everything it can to keep marijuana illegal. The DEA loves busting medical marijuana dispensaries. Legalization is going to take a while it seems, though I'm not sure on how many years. We will win. Medical marijuana is a great step; decriminalization alike. We need to educate and be responsible.

The stoner stereotypes portrayed in movies and T.V. are prime examples of what someone might think of when they think, "Pothead." The characters are usually not doing much, skipping school (getting bad grades) and saying "whoooaaa dude." What about the people that smoke weed as a way to to make life livable? The people who have pain day in and day out and marijuana seems to help the most? If it's not legalized for recreational use, at least let patients who get great benefits from marijuana use it. It doesn't seem fair that marijuana is schedule I drug yet it has health benefits and isn't very addicting (if at all). It's very capable to stay on track in your life while using marijuana. Just don't let it make its way up to the top of your priorities. To me, that is when it crosses from being responsible to not.

It appears from your statement that your director has marginalized you and doesn't take you seriously as result of your proclaimed pot acceptance. Its going to take decades to get rid of the idea that pot smoking makes you unreliable. I earlier said that it would be around 2154 but that was being optimistic. In reality, I don't think it will ever be accepted in the US (maybe, just maybe as a medicine).

You're right about that, he's done just that. His use of that terminology is often at inappropriate, such as when a local flight service is here teaching a class, or when the big-wigs at the top of the chain of command are around I've asked him to please not call me that in front of people who aren't "family", but to no avail.

A doctor who is open minded and knows the pros and cons of marijuana would (IMHO) tend to say that marijuana, used responsibly, is fundamentally harmless and would make a fine OTC medicine for several aches and pains.

I know and most doctors are open minded I'm completly aware of all the medical uses of weed but a doctor advocting drug use is putting his job on the line. So m doctors awsome and obviously isn't afriad to speak his mind.

Not true. This was challenged in federal court and it was found that such speech is protected by the First Amendment and the law that was being used to prosecute these doctors was determined to be invalid.

I think you will find that most doctors are not open-minded about marijuana. Most of the medical marijuana recommendations in California come from a small group of doctors.

They need to go ahead and legalize the shit im 16 years old and smoke it. I keep wanting to try pills and i smoke cigraettes to get that (high) and doing dip which only lasts for a sec. and doing nutmeg and stupid shit. It would be alot more safer to legalize it and better. we would be more safer smokeing healthy weed instead of dangerous pills and cancerous cigrettes .

Sad but true. And some of those doctors are frauds who only want to cash in on the medpot card potential to generate alot of cash. As shown on that 60 minutes segment, some doctors don't even look at you and only want the cash up front. I see this as a very dangerous thing for the medpot movement.
