I'm not sure when it will be legalized as a normal, recreational substance but it seems like that is nowhere in the near future. I believe a lot more states will allow the use of medicinal marijuana though. Come on PA, get on your horse!

As far as medical uses go, I'd say within the next twenty years. But like imFADED said, for recreational use I don't think that is going to happen anytime in the near future.

I think if the movement continues to grow I wouldn't be surprised to see legalization in under 15 years.

the sensible answer is *HOPEFULLY* ten years. Check this out though, if this country were a real democracy, we would be using it legally right as we speak!

Marijuana will be legalized when a majority of Congresspersons and Senators vote in favor of a legalization bill, which is then signed by the President. It takes a favorable vote from just 218 Congresspersons, 51 Senators, and the President to pass a bill into law (see the School House Rock, I'm Just A Bill at
) There are two bills in front of Congress right now: 5842, medical mj, with thirteen cosponsors, and 5843, personal mj, with five cosponsors. That means that about an additional 200 or so Congresspersons and 51 Senators need to believe that voting in favor of these two bills is more likely to help them than to hurt them at the polls this next November. If even 10% of the people with an interest in this area were to write a friendly, supportive letter to his or her Congressperson and two Senators, it would be a massive display of public opinion. Are you prepared to spend five minutes a day to make sure that your Congressperson, Senators, and President vote for the changes you want? You don’t have to travel or organize a rally or spend much money (just a few bucks for stamps). What it’s going to take is a steady stream of letters to your Congressperson, your two Senators, and the President. Here’s a template for a friendly, supportive letter to your Congressperson, Senator, State Representative, etc. This is the kind of letter that will get their attention, because we’re coming across as the friendly, tax-paying citizens that we are. Letters that are rude or too stoney aren’t going to have nearly the impact that a friendly, supportive approach will get (So let’s steer clear of the “Dear Dude, we all have, like, the inalienable right to, you know, do whatever…” approach). Something like the following is a good start:
1) Go to https://forms.house.gov/wyr/welcome.shtml to get the name and address of your Congressperson. This will take less than a minute. Do it now and you’ll have it out of the way.
2) Write the letter. You can make it look like the one below or any way you like; this is just a sample. Spend at least five minutes on it, check the spelling, and read it out loud to yourself to see if it makes sense. (Do this while your in a sensible frame of mind,). You don’t have to be a great writer; just stick to the point and keep it short, i.e, not more than one page.
3) Find friend to write a letter, too. Share this material with him or her at your next get together.
4) Repeat the process at least once a week. Make it your personal mission to do two things: Get a letter like this into the hands of your Congressperson, each Senator, and the President, every month (that’s four letters a month), and get some friends to do the same. It only takes a dozen letters to create the impression of a public mandate; an elected official getting a dozen letters a week will really feel the public presence.

Here’s the sample letter.

Your Name
Your Address
Your City State and ZIP

January 99, 2008

The Honorable <Name of Congressperson / Senator / etc. >
Address (get the right address from https://forms.house.gov/wyr/welcome.shtml )

Dear Congressman/Congresswoman/Senator <LastName >:

I am writing to ask you to <whatever it is you want him or her to do>.

Thanks for your time, and keep up the great work!

Sincerely,

<Your Name>

That's hardly a random sampling. I suspect that someone posted the location on a marijuana-friendly website and a whole bunch of people went there to vote. On gun issues, Ohioans for Concealed Carry would do that and the results were skewed tremendously, like 96% in favor of concealed carry.

National surveys with random samplings show that between 33% and 36% favor the legalization of marijuana.

Most people follow and as long as pot is a dirty word like S and M it does not matter how many people do it.Its how many people have the guts to admit it and bring it out of the closet.Society is set up in away to make it you have to look like everyone else plug into their ideas or struggle. The people who hide the fact that they smoke and cut their hair or what ever will always be the norm.I have seen so many of my friends who where going to fight the fight and move to northern cali and live like hippie in a cabin. As soon as their parents would offer a 30.00 hr job and co sign a house it was over cutting off the dread locks shaving the beard and into hiding.
