| Myself, i am guessing within 10 years, i think by then the government is going to have too many problems to concern themselves over such a minor drug. Cause if you think about it, Marijuana just dosn't seem like one of those things that can stay illegal forever...

| Let's all just sit back and think about this for a moment... right now, 2001, the drug war is in pretty much full effect. I can almost guarantee that it will not happen in the next eight years. Right now our fabulous president-elect, Bush, is too anti-ganja and the president who follows him will not go directly into trying to legalize herb. I honestly think that it will happen roughly 12-20 years from now...2013-2021. By then (hopefully!!!) our country will be slightly more open to the idea of having a pretty harmless drug around... ...I guess we'll see! Everybody that truly believes in the legalization of marijuana needs to do their part to help progress our movement forward! | |

| but you forgot 1 main point MEDICAL marijuana with each new state that wakes up and passes laws on it, the federal aspect must be looked at agian once enough states pass laws. lets say 30/50 -35/50 states pass med mj laws, you know the gov cant ignore it once the facts get stared to be told mainstream it will happen fast |

| The US government is the biggest bunch of corporate gangbang f4cks I have ever seen. Every promise is a lie and all politicians are bought and paid for by industry leaders before they even set foot in office. It won't be until the next 20 years if ever until its legalized, because the governments agenda isn't to make the world better; it's so they can buy more crack whores and fast cars with the dirty money they get. Oh, I'd also like to say that the war on drugs has been going on forever and the drug users are winning (AND WERE ALL F4CKED UP). Guess that says something about drugs, huh? | |

| Hello all; I think most of you are very pessimistic. I remember the 70's, there was no war on drugs as far as we kids were concerned, if a cop busted you, he would usualkly grind it into the dirt, or you could buy it back after he got off shift. *That is not just senility speaking, one of my best dealers was a cop* Now, in the 80's, with Reagan, the drug war was coupled to advancing crime and immense propaganda campaigns were designed to make mom and dad scared of all drugs, extreme harsh penalties reigned throughout the 80's and 90's. It is now these same penalties, and the brutality with which they are enacted which are going to result in the end of the infamous drug war. Certainly Europe is calling a slow truce. And this helps, with canada also defecting, and South American countries loudly and publically calling for an end to American drug war arrogance and such, the war is becoming embarrassing. Too many have good sons and daughters in jail while too many truly bad people walk. It is breaking guys. I feel it. I say look for the States to decrim, then watch the States rights battle begin. Certainly Medical marijuana is helping to de-demonize the sacred herb. And you young folks are also. Keep pushing, ask Politicians at rallies, when you will no longer be considered a criminal, in discussions point out the waste. And you can speed the process. I thnk if things continue on, and the internet is not censored, 3-4 years. Be well and keep yer fingers crossed. Kelly |

| It really matters on what you mean by legalization. Do you mean any country in the world legalizing it like alchohol? Or do you mean the entire USA? Or do you mean just one state. If you mean the whole USA, then I say within fifteen years. If you mean just one state, then I will say within five. After all, the legalization ballot in Alaska only lost 40-60, and the younger voters voted over fifty percent yes. And I understand that the ballot was poorly written, so just imagine how well a well written ballot would do in a few years. Ill just average it and vote within ten. | |

| I think we are going to have to wait for the old people to die off before we see change. Then i still think the baby boomers are too fickle to be on our side. Lets not forget about the misinformed soccer moms, they are gonna oppose it because they want to 'protect' their children. Also because of political correctness, hollywood replaced (asians, italians, latinos, blacks, gays) with drug users as bad guys. this makes us look like fiends or as weak. the NUMBER ONE (1#) REASON why it wont be legalized is because there is more money being made with it being illegal. DARE, DEA, DuPont, brewers, oil companies, drug companies, law enforcement, doctors and others potentially stand to lose big money with legalization. They use their big money and power to influence the legalization. very few will make money off of legalization. taxpayers will to benefit the most. we have a long way to go | |

| I answered 15 years on the survey but It's really too complicated of a situation right now to say for sure. If you were *really* optimistic it could be within 10 years but on the same token maybe never. I was talking to a congressional intern after attending an undergraduate student government meeting at my school (I was there in support of the repeal of the drug provision of the higher education act. Students are losing federal financial aid for a crumb of marijuana. E-mail me if you want any info on this: badger@marijuana.com), and he was telling us the main problem with getting decriminalization bills through congress/state or local government is that supporting marijuana law reform still makes politicians look "soft on drugs." Also, supporting reform can cause major problems between a politician and his/her political party. However this situation can and hopefully will change if popular support for marijuana law reform increases. If the people speak out and refuse to vote for ignorant politicians it will make a difference. Basically the point I'm trying to make is show your support. Get active in NORML or similar organization in your area. Register to vote! You can only sign petitions if you're registered and every signature counts. | |
