Default Switzerland parliament has legalized MJ?

I read over at cannabisnews.com that the Swiss legislature had legalized marijuan. The person did not site a source and I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about it. If true it will be sure to be on pot-tv and I will come back an edit this inquiry with some happy news.

Has anyone wondered what happenned to the legalization efforts in Switzerland since the news of the Senate voting 25 to nothing for legalizing cannabis. There is only one other article at Swissinfo.org besides the one about the Senate approval. All we have is this article that came out February 28, 2002. What is going on with this. Can anyone contribute to the discussion?

Grassmike:
The "Senate" as you refer to it is also called the "small chambre" of the federal assembly, the Swiss legislative authority.
But there is also a "large chambre" with 200 representatives. It is scheduled that they deal with the legalization this automn/winter. If they say yes as well, there is still the possibility to collect signatures for a referendum. The deadline for submitting a referendum would be somewhen in Summer 2003, and the subsequent vote by the Swiss people would take place around the end of 2003.

You see, although we've already made a few steps in the right direction, there is still a lot of patience and lobbying needed.

So keep your fingers crossed that we'll get rid of this stupid and hypocritical law once and for all.

Yes, there always seems to be trouble finishing these things off. It's the same in Britain - there are moves afoot to decriminalise, but there's a long way to go. Just look at the Netherlands... the new government is going to clamp down heavily on coffeeshops. We have to *follow through* on all these things. It's not enough to get effective decriminalisation or even semi-official decriminalisation - we need to get it fully legalised, so as to make it as hard as possible for some right-wing party coming into power to undo all the hard work. I know that no country has yet actually *legalised* pot, but that's what we have to aim for - in Switzerland, the UK, the US, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands and everywhere else.

Sanity will prevail eventually, because nothing can last for ever. The Spanish Inquisition, the Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy era in America - every era of senseless persecution has to end eventually.

Roll on the day...

Well, if Europe keeps heading towards decriminalisation, and if Canada keeps pressing ahead, then even ole stubborn Uncle Sam will have to wake up and smell the coffee...

Default the hills are alive...

*with the sound of weed plantations sprouting up everywhere.
* Head(s) fer the Alps*

Its passed legislation last week in Switzerland_ and is now officially " tolerated"
they sell it in *smart shops* and don't hassle people smoking on street.

(swiss bank account holders reply here:
GreenAcres@planet)
LOL
[edit: Lawnmowerman...koffieshops are too entrenched here to ever give in to all the pressure from the USofa...but yeah the conservatives are in power here at the moment_10 procent of our population smokes, we can't all be wrong, and medicinal weed( a card that allows you to get your stash in part paid for by the Health Care System: a BIG savings to the user!) is now available through our public health care_thanks to some american fighting for it in Rotterdam)
