| LEAP- Law Enforcement Against Prohibition I noticed today on the home page of marijuana.com a link to this site, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. Link to their site "Current and former members of law enforcement who support drug regulation rather than prohibition. " I'm glad to hear they are starting this drugpolicy reform group. I'm impressed to see that LEO's would go as far as admiting the failed war on drugs, and starting a reform group with a purpose to end the drug war. In some ways, things are looking up. ![]()

| Was kind of my feeling too a I posted it. I remember the arguments of Gil Puder before he died. The bravery. These folks have my respect. And whats more, they have a respect that prohibitionists cannot dismiss. I was kind of hoping we could get some of them to come here and speak with us. The day is young. Kelly

| "And whats more, they have a respect that prohibitionists cannot dismiss." Most of them, I've never heard of, but one (Joe McNamara) is widely dismissed in the LE world. He was an oddity as a police chief and is largely disregarded by the majority of LEO's that know much about him.

| "Maybe, and i'm just assuming, he is disregarded because the migority of LEO's don't think the drug war has failed, while he does." It's not based only on his drug views. He has some views about management, special teams and other topics that most LEO's disagree with. "Do you think the drug war has failed and we should regulate drugs?" Both are areas I don't dicuss. Sorry. |

| Some of them are known to me through the press. They have backed this stance as individuals often. I will see what I can find out about them, although Governor Johnson of New Mexico should be fairly easy to get a bio on, I may need time for the others. If we are going to have a debate. Lets make it an informed one. As an aside, and purely from our point of view, this is a win. The letter to the United Nations secretary Generayl a few years ago did not change the drug war. But it did open the debate. this should serve to open it wider. It has always been our position that if a debate ensued, the facts on marijuana prohibition would not allow its continuation in the public mind. The scope of this group seems to be more inclusive than that of marijuana.com. But that is a topic for another day, and another place. For now, as the little guy, we will take what help we can get. Kelly. |
