| House Bill 715, a bill to decriminalize marijuana, has been introduced in the Texas Legislature. Now is the time to contact your state legislators and strongly urge them to support this important piece of legislation. This bill recommends that minor marijuana offenders in Texas will face a maximum penalty of a ticket and a small fine in lieu of criminal arrest and prosecution. This is a step in the right direction, but it will only receive serious consideration if the elected officials in Texas hear an unmistakable message of support from their constituents. Please take two minutes of your time to write your state legislators and tell them how important it is that they support marijuana decriminalization. VISIT HERE TO WRITE YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS Takes hardly anytime at all. Thank you for your time.

HB715 is a step in the right direction. It is a small step, but a step in the right direction none the less. If you are in Texas, write your rep. Keep this bill alive.

If you live in Texas as I do, go to NORML's site and send the prepared letter (or compose your own) to your state representative. All you have to do is provide your zip code and NORML's site will tell which representative to write. You can and should e-mail but follow up with a letter or fax. I realize this takes guts for some people but "nothing ventured = nothing gained." Most people do not know how powerful their positions are with their state legislatures. To a state representative, every vote counts at election time. If you visit, call, or write your state representatives, they will definately act in concert with your recommendations. (If not, vote them out.) State legislatures are one venue where the people have a definite power to form the laws of their state. Do you wish we had this much power with the federal government? Well, when the majority of states change their laws, the federal government will have no choice but to change their laws. (Especially if we vote against those who are voting against us in Congress.)

Sam, are you content with our voting system of voting out reps we dont like? Our reps have nice little terms you know. The people who have clout with them are the ones who support their campaign finacialy. The reps who pick the wrong steriotype (eg. greenparty, libritarian) do not get enough funds to have a chance of letting people know who they are and what there about.

Our voting system works but it requires the persistence of the people, as it should. In other words, the system works as long as we become brothers and sisters and band together for a common course of action. Let's be our own best friend and DO the right thing. Register and Vote. If your representative doesn't represent you then, as you would in life, fire him or her. You need a new representative.

Our election system is based alot on money, but what isn't in this beloved country? In time, I sincerely believe that Libertarians are going to gain some offices in the public eye. They already have many local positions, and they continue to grow every year despite their lack of funding. You want to see another party such as the libertarian or green party get in, then vote and donate to them and try to spread the word. That's the most just one of us can do. I hope everyone that can has lobbied by now, don't stop though keep it up an follow the bill. We have to try to push this through.
