Hi,
for my english class we need to write a speech and then of course say the speech in front of class. It has to be a controversal one too. So I chose Marijuana Legalization. I need some ideas for stuff that Marijuana is udesful for without smoking it. For example I said "The hemp of the marijuana plant is cheaper to make paper with than trees, so that will boost our economy." or another idea was that "it will provide more jobs because there will be marijuana companies"...and i'm sure u guys know that it takes alot of care for one plant for it to be top quality, so the company wil need to hire alot of ppl for that. Does anybody else have any ideas for the speech? thanks

stickybumps16, you should definitely mention in your speech the governments pro-marijuana film, Hemp For Victory, back in 1942 during WWII. The 16th link has the transcript from the short film.

Marijuana Legalization will also boost the economy by providing more options for farmers, new business innovations for entreprenuers(think of the possabilities.. eg. a starbucks that sells pot in art museums and at musicals), a new toy for biological engineers, and greater spending in the gross domestic product (which is a big happy face for the economy).

Be sure not to get them mixed up- Hemp and Marijuana are related but really two different plants with different uses and purposes. Hemp is industrial and Marijuana is medicinal and or recreational. Both should be legal.

i give impromptu speeches about medicinal marijuana and i usually start out about how Harry Anslinger, the first drug czar of the USA, lied about hemp in order to destroy the hemp industry. Anslinger was also a racist with racist buddies in high positions. the war on marijuana is the worst hate-crime against americans written by americans. it is a racially motivated legislation that should be repealed as a hate-crime.

mandatory minimum sentencing is another area to look at when speaking about marijuana. mms makes it almost impossible for a jury to do its job. look up jury nullification.

also include how america as a free society locks up more of its citizens than any other country on the planet. almost half of all arrests in the us are just for smoking pot.

close your argument with the facts that there has not been one recorded death in all of history due to marijuana use. it is impossible to ingest or smoke enough marijuana to kill a person.
