i'm bored, so i thought i'd post my thoughts. will legalization ever happen? things may be looking bleak right now, but i think that it may not be too far away. recently, the government seems to be focusing extra hard on putting dealers and growers (medical and not) in jail. but personally, i think this is their last big battle as far as marijuana goes in the war on drugs. look at the facts. marijuana is becoming more and more accepted in countries around the world. if i'm correct, marijuana use is at an all time high (hehe, high...get it?). but anyway, marijuana is a part of today's popular culture. smoking is a common way to relax among high school kids. even the majority of the one's who do not smoke, have no problem with the ones that do. i predict that by the time the next generation takes over congress, our contries marijuana laws will begin to reform. we all just have to learn to vote for the right candidates who support our activities. and if the government stopped with all this false advertising of people who smoke hitting little girls with cars, shooting their friends with guns, and raping girls at parties and actually gave americans the FACTS, such as what percentage of marijuana users are tax paying, law abiding citizens, then i think we would have legalization already. in fact, the only anti-weed commercial i've seen that is somewhat accurate is the one of those two guys smoking in the bathroom who proceed to get arrested. how could our country fix this problem?? by legalizing marijuana! yes, marijuana CAN get you busted, but WHY? people are going to smoke no matter what the legal penalty is so why spend billions of dollars punishing these people when we could be making billions of dollars producing and taxing this product. i'm sure im not the first person on the site to point this out so sorry, i just had to vent some anger. i think the first paragraph was the part i was looking for a response on but i got caught up in the excitement and lost track of my point. but if i actually had anything in there worth responding to, feel free.

yea.. I bet if it isn't legal in the next couple of years, its is going to be more accepted by the government and not as heavy punishment. But I pray to God that it is going to be legalized!

hey, ya i agree w/ everything you said Kap'n Kronik. But the only thing is is that they dont know how to tax it and make a profit off of it. So in that case it will take them a while to figure that out. which is really easy to begin w/. But you can pretty much tell that that is why they "the goverment" doesnt legalize weed. Alchol was illegal a while ago and then they legalized it bc the actually figured out how to tax it. so that is pretty much why they dont legalize it. and i kno this has been past around a couple of times 2 but it's true! well im out!! peace

One of the things that will have to be done is to find an affordable and accurate test for THC that will show if you are actually high instead of just having it in your system. Employers wouldn't like the idea of not knowing for sure nor would the cops if you get in an accident, you know they wouldn't want to let you be able to drive high and not be able to pop you for it.

I agree with Sam. If you feel that were not winning this drug war, go out and start asking people what they think about marijuana legalization. You will get alot of people admitting they are marijuana smokers. Every so often you will hear an opposing side. Dont worry about it, they probally do not know they are descriminating against our culture. I tend to remind people of how the Americans treated the Indians and the Africans when our cultures mixed. I was downtown and saw a man walking in a suit. I introduced myself, and found out he was a lawyer. I asked him what he thought about marijuana legalization. He told me hes all for it. He is also a drug activist. I asked 4 of my teachers in college. 3 of 4 agree that the drug war is immoral.

| i think as long as the right wing is in power, legalization doesn't have a prayer. Especially not the type of legalization we want. Maybe some couple of states will be able to get away with medical marijuana on a large scale, but those of us who aren't sick who want to smoke will still be out getting busted for it. now i'm not saying i like the right, or the left, but i dont think the left is going to be in any commanding position for a while, and that means more waiting for us..

If we can get Congress to at least reschedule marijuana to a Schedule II or III drug, it can be prescribed legally accross the country. Although legalization is the goal, this initiative would at least provide some relief for those who really need marijuana to ease pain and nausea. I personally suffer from mild anxiety and would be able to get a prescription. (No one needs to know that my anxiety is a direct result of marijuana prohibition.)

I honestly think that the only solution to the problem in the US is time. At present, Congress is composed of older people, usually above the age of 45. Many of these are not the ones who were protesting during the 60's, but Bush's type, the conservatives who hid during the war. Eventually, when the younger generations become older, many of their experiences will translate into policy. Many younger people, especially the liberal type, are becoming more interested in politics. New industries, notably the technology sector, has allowed young liberals to produce the finances neccessary to compete with rich conservatives. Hopefully this will show in the next few decades, with younger legislators and policy makers.
