Lightbulb You think marijuana will be legalized? Not with your attitudes...

Sitting around and smoking pot does not add up to change. I take that back, I suppose you could help by starting to email your elected officials to legalize industrial, medical, and recreational marijuana. Now don't stop by simply looking at the letter and thinking you did your part, that little send button is down there waiting for you to click. Perhaps you are paranoid that if you speak your mind, cops will come busting your door down and arrest you for possession. Maybe you are afraid a family member will find out that you are smoking pot because of your letter. To those concerns, you are excersing your 1st amendment rights. You have every right in the world to express your political views to your elected officials, and you WILL NOT be persecuted (yet) for it. Why stand by idle with the pipe and a bowl loaded up when you can add a simple tool to the equation that can lead to a change in everything, your computer mouse.

I'm urging everyone reading this message to stop being scared, to stop feeling persecuted! We will be liberated through our efforts. Wake up people! We are the marijuana reform community on the internet. We represent the hopeless potheads that would never think to type in http://www.marijuana.com. Your job is part of the equation that NORML and the MPP needs to complete their mission, to legalize marijuana. Whether you just support it for medicinal reasons or not, you HAVE to voice your support and there is no better time than now!

To any Texans reading this, I have a petition up on e-thepeople, a political activist page that is going to go to the governor, lt. gov, and my stubborn state senator. I'm urging you to sign it right away.

Thank you, and let us all thank God for the beloved herb known as cannabis.

Been there, done that, doing it. Who said I am scared? Who said any of us is scared? Who said there are so many hopeless potheads out there?

I for one know allot of very successful, very productive citizens who do indeed send letters, write emails and stand up for their right to partake of the herb.

You are preaching to the choir.

I hope that people who come to this site don't ass-u-me that teenagers are the only ones who enjoy marijuana. This site has become inundated with kids lately. Often kids posting silly...well, kid stuff. However, many of us are active members of our home communities and do care, do get active and genuinely want to make a change with regard to prohibition of marijuana.

Lately I have preferred to read allot of Richard Cowan's news. http://www.marijuananews.com I forward a lot of his articles to smokers and NON-smokers alike. I send them to my senators, etc. I try to help people become better informed.

My attitude is that of one who tries yet has a child, a public school teaching position, and a life that I don't want to see torn apart because I smoke pot. Thus, I don't advertise my stance in my community or workplace (unless the right opportunity arises!).

I think that many of the adults at marijuana.com actually do just what you suggested. However, email is not the answer. Actually putting your thoughts on paper and using the good old USPS holds more credence to our elected officials. Every time I have sent something snail mail to a gov't official, I get an actual personal response, rather than a computer generated response commonly given to emailers.

Nice thoughts though.

peace

My emails have gotten letter responses, of course, I did include my real name and address on them so that could be why. The letters I got seemed intentionally neutral (what did I expect), I imagine so as not to piss me off and not to actually take a stand on the issue.

Well, obviously I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to the people reading this thread that do not partake in activities that will lead to change. I realize there are alot of great potheads out there, I know that and agree with you 100%

There are however, potheads that I know for a fact that do not bother to email their officials and sign petitions for various reasons. This thread was meant to reach out to those people and hopefully motivate some to partake in the reform.

It really does my heart good to see that there are so many of us who are brothers and sisters in the same cause.

Be patient and mentor those with whom you have influence about our system of democracy.

I would like to get in touch with my state officials and help out to de-criminalize cannabis, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm fourteen. If I were to send in a letter would they even really listen to someone my age?

Dunno - I've heard some people talk as if unregistered voters mean little, I imagine a 14 year old would not carry the voice of a registered voter. (not that that voice is exactly loud) I suppose you could just not mention your age and send an anonymous letter - many are afraid to write officials, fearing the police will put them under surveilance or something... so it's reasonable. It's not like you'd be lying about anything.

Default Well I did

I started emailing my officials at the age of 16 on marijuana related issues. I got responses back and my state officials made personal responses to me. I'm not so sure that they check the age so much as the address.

Anyone can write their congressman. Felon, minor, non-resident alien, registered voter or not.
