Ok, check this out. I am from Illinois, USA. I just spent 10 months in jail for a little sack of weed. I'll spare you the details, let's just say that right now, 10/8/07, I am on house arrest for another month for the same offense. Anyway, during my time in jail I had a brilliant idea...

I have always had a problem with authority, but nothing made that problem worse than me winding up in jail for a little flower from my cannabis trees. So I decided to stand up for my rights. In the constitution of the USA it is said that we as a people have the freedom to protest what we don't agree with. So, taking that into consideration, I have decided to organize a massive protest to the illegality of Marijuana in the United States. (If this works, the rest of the world will be next on my agenda. I'm just taking this one step at a time.) Anyway for anyone who is interested in joining me and "smoking for a cause", reply to this or send me an e-mail. (goldfinger191@aim.com) Donations and all other help will be accepted, remember, we're all in this together.

P.S. this will be in the Illinois area, most likely by one of the universities either in the central or northern part of the state. 4/20/08 is the date in mind. it's perfect, it's a Sunday, and what else are we all gonna do but smoke on that day anyway. Smoke for a cause, it couldn't hurt.

P.S.S. My plan was gather everyone in a open area with a band or two and everyone just smoke. (the idea being that we are all high and everyone is peaceful, so as to show why punishing people for being high is wrong). Any assistiance would be appreciated if any of you are gonna be in the area. I'm planning to post flyers in different colleges, head shops, and anywhere else pot smokers would be. Anyone in a Band that would be willing to play let me know. Anyone that wants to start a protest in your own area that's great, we could work together, or not, it's a free world in my eyes do want you believe is right.

P.S.S.S. I know it seems like a long time away, but I've been planning to make this thing huge, so i've been thinking about it a lot.

Tell your friends, tell your relatives, tell the media, remember this is going to be huge, media attention means our voice is being heard. This is going to happen. And it is going to be huge. So anyone that is willing to contribute let me know.

How does a bunch of people smoking pot and listening to music constitute a "protest"?

It sounds like a great way for a lot of other people to suffer the same kind of legal entanglements you've been in. This kind of thing goes over big in Canada. In the US, people just get arrested and the media treats it like a joke.

I just want to say that getting a lot of people together to smoke in public sounds like a really good way to get yourself and others arrested. There are a few places in this country where this has been done without incident, to my knowledge none of them were in Illinois.

Good luck with your project. I would suggest a lot of research and a good lawyer - because smoking pot, last I checked was illegal, and really only moderately tolerated in a handful of places. Let us know how it goes.

i would say that a protest where people dont smoke would be much better. You have the right to peacefuly protest (actually maybe not if you are on parole, your rights can be taken away until you complete it) as long as you are not breaking any other laws. And i find it hard to believe that you went to jail for 10 years for a little sac of weed unless you were selling it or commited a felony in the process.

That freedom doesn't include the right to break the law as part of that protest. If you break the law in public, expect to get busted. I think you'd be very unpopular in the lockup with all the people you got to go along with this pointless exercise.

If you want to protest, get some media attention, and not be treated like a joke, act like an adult and protest in a way that will actually benefit the legalization movement.
