Listen, ive been reading these legalizition forms for a while now. I've come across many letters sent to goveners and politicians in regard to legalizing marijuana. But you are trying to convince the wrong people. Convince your neighbor. Convince your coworker. Tell them the facts and get them on your side, because in this system of goverment THE PEOPLE are who matter and who get things done. You can say whatever you want to politicans in regards of legalization, but its irrelevant to them until there is an overwhelming support of marijuana by the populace (i.e. your neighbor, coworker). The two parties in power, republicans and democrats, will never take an extreme or conservative response to ANY issue, not just marijuana legalization, because the over whelmingviews of americans are moderate or inbetween. Say for example somehow the republican leadership goes ofr marijuana legalization. Who will vote for them to keep them in office? The marijuana users and supporters of course, but what about everyone else? Since americans have moderate views, they will vote for the democratic party since they kept their mouth shut about legalization. my point, even if you convinced a party leadership to support marijuana legalization it wouldnt matter because the general populace would vote them out of office. unfortunatly, its the people who are in office that represent american views, and since the majority american views dont support pot, laws wont be made in favor of legalization.
NOW GET OUT AND CONVINCE YOUR NEIGGBOR FOR LEGALIZATION!!

Agreed. Grassroots, citizen led movements is the way to go. Also we need more marijuana users and legalization supporters to run for office.

Applying for small, government committees is the best way to start. Get experience there and then run for city council and so on.

I myself hold a small post in the Sparks Citizens Advisory Committee next election I have my eye on a city council post, which is currently held by a man who's sexually assaulted 2 city employees and been convicted for a DUI.

Getting political is the only way to make change.

I agree, but in the mean time, politicians are people too. They can be convinced that it's time to legalize marijuana. If they will not budge, then at least we know where they stand come election time.

Agree as well. Rarely I post in this section. But as long as we convience family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, we can start to see a slow moving change.

though, I could never get into politics. but i do write, and i have 3 pro-mj stories that i'm gonna be publishing with a bunch of others. so...mm..., i guess thats it for my reply. later

Edit: I once heard someone say "procrastination is like masterbation, in the end you're only screwing yourself", well, to the ones who sit around and just smoke the doobies, wishing for legalization, get off your asses and start conviencing people, changing their views, or well, just do something to get them to back legalization. Great thread, later!

^^^^ yes but use that time convincing people who put politicians in office, because they vote and that makes them matter. Politicians will NEVER just come out with an postive approach on such such a controversial issue as marijuana with out a huge backing from their parties voters to keep them in office. The only use convincing polticians is to maybe form a splinter cell. The two parties in power are republicans and demcrats, neither of which support marijuana legalisation. like they did over slavery, if enough senators were convinced to create a new party over marijuana legalization (this happened with republicans and slavery... at first there was no republican party just the republican-democrats (yes just one party at first) and whigs... none of which supported stopping slavery so the senators that did splintered into the republican party and dropped the democratic nickname). That would of course take amazing organization and capital, but its possible. In the meantime though, spend your efforts convincing your neighbors and coworkers as that is a much quicker and less expensive path than trying to split up the american political system.

You don't have to form a new party already two parties support legalization. The Greens and the Libertarians. True, both the Libertarians and Greens pale in comparison to the power of theRepublicrats, but at least its something. The vehicle for political change is already here, we just have to jump on board.

Also I think there's a couple really, really small third parties that support legalization.

Default I agree with almost everything stated here...

except that "writing politicians is a waste of time". Writing to your elected officials, helps to keep the issue alive. By constantly letting them know your views, you are letting them know what issues are most important to you and therefor, should be for them.

I also have to disagree that congress wont pass a bill fully suported by the people...may I mention the "Patriot Act". Given certain situations, they will do just about anything. Including creating a situation to get away with it. Like reefer madness, they have hidden agendas. Also, the "Amber Alert" bill is an example of how they get their way by manipulating a bill with public support.

Talking to your friends and neighbors is a great way to go, but you also have to convince them to register AND vote, as I've found out. You will also have to convince them to do the same...contact their elected officials. It's not just changing their views...I know a lot of people who agree with me, but they wont get off their butts and use the powers given them. That frustrates me to no end so I turn to those who have the authority to actually do something...my elected officials.

Both actions are productive though, and we need to continue with both of them. Keep it up!

agree with you AndieBear.

I also think a good way to get the message out ot people is to start making pro-marijuana commercials, and air them just as much as they air every car commercial, movie preview on tv. Now no independent organization is gonna get this amount of commercial access. I say all the independent organizations, and political party join forces to fight this battle to legalize marijuana. At the same time, keeping up with writing politics, and talking to others, not just exhorting them to new views, but also getting them to get off their butts and vote. Not vote for any given politic, vote for who ever backs the legalization of marijuana, or pretty much the libertarians and greens.

But I really think we need to focus on commercials, like how anti-drug/marijuana commercials at played, play pro-marijuana, over and over and over again, with sites and other references to back them, as well as articles in magazines, and newspapers.

So yea..., we need to get up and stop wasting time if we want to see marijuana legal, think of it, 66 years from now they'll be celebrating 100 years of the prohibition.... we don't want that, we want to be celebrating in 1 year or more the legalization of marijuana. and I'm sure if wont just be us at mj.com, it will be many many many people.

2nd of last thing. Each site we go to, you and I, everyone here, should give there thoughts on the topic at the forums there, send them links to sites that support your facts. Exhort to them, and bring them to where we stand, ready to act, and ready to exhort.

before I go, I would like to add, in July and August I am taking the entire 2 months to finish writing sessions, apart from that I will be writing a 20-50 page essay on marijuana. This will be published in a few magazines and newspapers that own me a few favors, I hope to publish it on some sites, and also to every politician, I can possible send to. When finished, I could use all of your help.

on that note. i will now smoke this blunt and enjoy the rest of the night. Remember, women and blacks once had to fight for the rights of a normal white male citizen. They united so well, and thats the 1 reason why I think we haven't had any success on our mission to legalize it, we must unite as a full, become extreme marijuana activist, or just flat out normally active. Let your voice be heard, and trust me, it will be heard. Thats the way we work here in the states, and if anything changes....one word which may even be illegal to say, but I'll say it anyways...

Revolution. (but I dont think it will go that far)

Later!
