| First off I must say that I don't think norml has any desire to get pot legalised. Just like cancer researchers won't ever cure cancer. If it happens they are out of a job.The only thing that we all can do is re register to vote as independants for the next election cycle. If we do this in numbers the 2 dominant parties will see the dissatisfaction and distrust the people have in what our elected officials have been doing to us for years.Only then will they listen to the people directly and them we must demand the repeal of all marijuana laws, Quit ***** footing around and stand up and be counted. What kind of life do we all live when we have to be scared of our government bursting into our homes looking for illegal substances. That is not freedom. Thanks for letting me rant but in am tired of the inaction as more and more of our freedoms are taken from us and we do nothing at all.

| Buster... NORML is fine. MPP is fine. Any other alphabet soup-type legalization outfit is just fine. The problem is that they're (we're) up against considerable odds. The fact of the matter is, the majority of people DON'T smoke pot. The majority of voters DON'T smoke pot. For MOST people, MJ issues are not central to their lives and are therefore not major concerns at election time. Sucks, of course, but it's a fact of life. If Americans were TRULY interested in freedom, MJ prohibition would have ended long ago, sodomy laws wouldn't exist and a bunch of old white guys who can't get pregnant wouldn't be so concerned with women's reproductive health issues. We talk a good freedom, but I guess we really don't want it. Trust me though, NORML would like nothing better than to be out of a job, and ditto for cancer researchers. -LM |

| No one ever said all you have to do is believe in NORML. Of course you need to get out and vote, NORML is just one more organization on our side. Any support helps.

| If a cure for cancer was found, it would be solved. Not the same case for marijuana. Even if marijuana was legalized, NORML would still be focused on trying to keep it legalized, trying to fight strict regulations, trying to legalize cultivation, I mean look, there is a long rocky road ahead. Cancer cured tomorrow- Lots of jobs are gone Pot legalized tomorrow- Some state may not legalize it, some states may make penalties rougher or the amount so small it wouldn't matter. I'm saying that NORML has the interest of getting marijuana legalized. The thing is its not politically feasible at this juncture, the things feasible are decriminalizing and legalizing medical marijuana.

| I gues I get frustrated year after year hearing the same crap and nothing ever getting past the planning stages. I have never heard the group try to get people registered to vote. Nor have I ever seen a petition get cirulated. I would like to see norml concentrate all of their efforts on one state and show us a victory. From there it would snowball. |

You haven't seen them go out and get people registered to vote since they aren't that type of organization. They are a lobbying organization, mean they directly lobby their case to the elected officials already in office. If you are interested in more of a political action organization, I would recommend the Marijuana Policy Project. They are the group that lead the effort to try to legalize marijuana in Nevada. They have a billionaire or 2 backing their efforts directly. They run TV ads, give ballot intiatives support, get people out to vote, and lobby all at the same time. NORML remains focussed on lobbying. You say no progress has been made? What about the 10+ states that has decriminalized marijuana? What about the 9+ states that has legalized marijuana for medical purposes? You want instant progress? It won't happen in the current political climate. There is no way we can simply outright legalize marijuana at this juncture. NORML and the MPP are doing what the American people support and setting realistic goals. Patience is the key to our success and keeping the momentum going, because in case you haven't noticed, the marijuana reform community is at an all time peak. Do you want the momentum to go away? I sure the hell don't, that's why I continue to talk to people around me about marijuana reform, write letters to my elected officials, and are a donating member of NORML. What more can I say, you want change to happen, you have to be patient, otherwise it will never happen. |

| I whole heartedly agree. Every little bit helps even down to the individuals doing their part to continue correspondence with their state and federal representatives on the issues as they come up. If enough people continue to mail letters to their representatives and we grow, eventually our political clout cannot be ignored. |

| Please don't get me wrong. I do want to see more succeses in the fight to legalize. I, like all of my smoking friends would love to come out of the closet, so to speak. In our state law is only changed by grassroots efforts and the legislator will only respond after a legal petition process is satisfied. writing letters only bring you heat. The only thing the crooks we call polititions would respect would be if one party were to all of a sudden get a bunch of newly registered voters. Also in our state the poor economy has promted the senators to consider adding penalties to marijuana users and they will probably get it. In a time when Vegas is trying to get back to adult entertainment from competing states I think it would make sense to legalize. Talk about something that will draw people to vegas for vacations I will look into the political action org you mentioned. Thanks |
