| this is the speech i am presenting in class tomorrow...today...; please let me know what you think! Marijuana is an herb. A plant; just like tobacco. They pluck it, roll it, and smoke it. Both plants contain over 400 chemicals, but marijuana happens to contain several chemicals that equal a “cure-all;” cannabinoids and cannabinols; which are beneficial to people who suffer from AIDS, chemotherapy, anorexia or any other debilitating or terminal illnesses, for they help with sufferings from nausea, loss of appetite or unwillingness to eat, tremors, migraine headaches, and the list goes on . Yet…tobacco is the legal product. It has no benefits; unless you think the world is overpopulated and killing 400,000 plus people a year is one way of handling it. Along with that, people say that it is justifiable that alcohol and tobacco are legal for recreational purposes when it comes to business. Upon the legalization of medical marijuana, the government could, and most certainly would, tax medicinal marijuana making millions and pharmaceutical companies would make billions! Americans are quick to pop a pill in their mouth; whether it be for something minor, like muscle aches, or life depending, like “cocktails” that AIDS patients take to survive. So do you think marijuana would be more socially and politically accepted if it came in the form of a pill? Currently there is somewhat of a pill form; called Marinol. From the Unimed Pharmaceuticals, Inc. MARINOL® Capsules Product Information website January 2001, it states that [Marinol] is a medicine containing the active ingredient dronabinol. Dronabinol is synthetic delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or delta-9-THC. Unlike MARINOL®, however, marijuana (the plant material) does not provide standardized THC content and often contains impurities (including leaves, mold spores, and bacteria). "Also, [as reported in Understanding Marijuana: A New Look At The Scientific Evidence by Mitch Earleywine], Marinol is more expensive than marijuana. The amount of dronabinol (THC) typically used as an antiemetic for chemotherapy costs $50 to $100 per treatment, depending on the amount purchased at one time. Four to six marijuana cigarettes from the NIDA would provide as much THC as the typical dosage used in this research. This amount of cannabis would cost as little as $20 in the underground market and much less if the government lifted legal sanctions." A major concern many people have with legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes is that it will be abused. No offense, but those people need to take a “hit,” as some would say, and relieve the intraocular pressure from behind their eyes, which marijuana does, so they can see that, not only is this drug already being abused, but so are the legal ones. People forge prescriptions for medications like Valium, Vicatin, Xanax, and anything else they can get their hands on. People buy minors alcohol and tobacco. Dealers do not care how old you are, as long as you have money. So legal or not…drugs will be and are being abused. Marijuana should be legalized for medicinal purposes, because it is beneficial to your health, the economy and it is pretty much unlike many legal drugs; its fun, but it helps way more than it hurts. So, fight for the cause or cause a fight. ( we had to add a chiasmus for like 25 points, so yeah, stupid but i had to add it) |

| Cannabinol is one of the cannabinoids found in the plant. I think you should mention that Marinol has only 1 ingredient, synthetic THC. It does not contain the other cannabinoids (e.g. cannabidiol) that also have medical benefits.
