| I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post in. but We can blame the business man Harry J. Anslinger. He had a paper empire , he owned hundreds of acres of timber forests, but with with big business, comes competition, and his main competition was Hemp. Hemp could be grown yearly and was a lot cheaper to maintain. So what better way to take out the competition then making it illegal? Being human, which means he was naturally greedy, fought to make his competition illegal so he can make $$$. He claimed Marijuana was @#$%ing up kids brains and destroying society trough the use of mass media, really when all he wanted was $. Greedy bastards. |

| That's not the only company, DuPont, a chemical company which exists to this day had it's say in marijuana prohibition as well as a few other very rich companies. As well as greed, racism had a big role in marijuana prohibition. Anyone who hasn't seen the video documentary Grass should take a look. Not only is it well put together, it's very informative. GRASS - The History of Marijuana - part 1 GRASS - The History of Marijuana - part 2 GRASS - The History of Marijuana - part 3 GRASS - The History of Marijuana - part 4 GRASS - The History of Marijuana - part 5 GRASS - The History of Marijuana - part 6 GRASS - The History of Marijuana - part 7 GRASS - The History of Marijuana - part 8 |

The person you're describing seems to be William Randolph Hearst. His yellow journalism certainly contributed to the atmosphere in which marijuana was demonized and prohibited, but he was not alone by any means. Robber barons in several industries all did their part. You ought to check your facts before you tell people why marijuana is illegal. Most of the old-timers around here know the story in all its details. You can find it in Jack Herer's The Emperor Wears No Clothes.
