| The Liberals have broken to US pressure and have backed off of decriminalizing possession of marijuana. Hasn't been posted on the news page yet. Check out the Toronto Star's homepage for the article... (www.torontostar.com) |

| The US knows that once canada decriminalizes, and has success (hopefully) then the US is gonna be put on the spotlight. I'm still glad that they at least are attempting to get somewhere. I think the legalization movement is doing better than ever. More and more US states are legalizing medical marijuana, (I think there's 13 states now) and Canada is at least showing interest in decriminalizing. I bet a bunch of stupid fat men in congress bribed the Canadian government to back down.. what a shame.

| Damn! This makes me mad as hell and I am so sorry that my government forces it's policies on Canadians. So what will our Canadian friends do about this now? There must be some kind of avenue to take action against your politicians for bowing to the will of the US government. |

| goddamit i hate america. but it says that they're still thinking of giving only fines and and no criminal record but it's still a criminal offense. so its pretty well the same as decriminalization |

| Everyone, make sure politicians know this is an important issue to you. We are so close, now is the time to stand up. Especially given Bush's war, many Canadians are anti-US, at least a little. Let's capitalize on that sentiment. Get the message out.

| Ok, don't panic, I get both the Toronto Star and the Globe and I was a bit perplexed as well. Seems that the Star is wrong, dead wrong. I read the contrasting articles and noticed that both used the same sources, so I decided to check out what the other papers had to say. Ottawa Citizen Toronto Sun, today's edition confirms. CBC The CBC notes the confusion in headlines, but also points out that the Star article itself is contradictory. At one point it says that the law remains the same, at another it says that small amounts will be punished with a ticket or fine. The others are much more exact, and basically go with the proposed plan.
