This prohibition of marajuana in the USA used to drive me crazy.
Like the book from J. Herer_ Emporor wears no clothes_explained it was in the be$t intere$t for the US gov't/ Anslinger and his crones, to wage war with the plant that could threaten the livlihood$ of many, the paper industry, petrol industry and pharmaceutical companies stood to lose out should this Miracle Plant ever be commercialized.
It makes me sick but it worked. Hearst was the Rupert Murdoch of his time and was in charge of all the media of the day, he demonized marajuana, associationg the use of it with " crazy coloreds dancing all night" " wild eyed mexicans committing heinous crimes"
In so doing, he used the racial divisions that were already there. He fed on the white "Massa" mans fear of the " darkies" and used the NRA and KKK to drive the point home and protect his fortune for generations to come.
Now look at the place. ( usa ) Paranoia, racism, shoot now, ask questions later, neo conservatism_which is scarier than anything IVE ever seen, all this Christian, we are The Chosen People ( BS)
and a country full of repressed, angry, children who can lay their hands on ammo and weaponry easier than a few Kb's. And face it, "every body wants to get stoned"
America seems to be gripped in a FEAR culture. More fear=more money spent on protection. More gated communities and twisted youth acting ( and dressing-haha) like under privleged children from the " projects" just to have some identity that they are attune to.

Its why our drug tourism here is a BOOMING business. I didn't move here specifically for this reason, more because here, if something happens ie: Cancer, losing your job, etc._the government provides a safety net and will catch you. They consider addiction a " public health problem" not criminal activity.

America is a mess right now. Take some lessons from Canada and demand change. VOTE to get the 'barstewards' out of power.
Todays youths are tomorrows politicians...

ps for those who think cannibis leads to the use of hard drugs...the numbers here show the opposite is true. I've seen it with my own children and their friends.

Very nice post. Welcome to cheaptalk if no one has welcomed you yet It's interesting to note that the same time marijuana became illegal opiate uses was well tolerated by most people. Many middle and upper class people were addicted to opiates and it was not considered a problem. Heroin even began to be known as a non-addictive morphine substitute. The government saw how it was the young people and immigrants using marijuana and their racism/fear kicked in. Ignorism kills.

"Oh I would not feel so all alone....everybody must get stoned."

Its good to have the choice and availability of the best weed/hash, on the planet, in one place, here_(sorry...everyone's not really "free" )

I "quit" all the time, wouldn't be that much of a problem. I wouldn't want to quit forever or anything, but when I quit it's fairly easy to immerse myself in something else.

I personally think it would work quicker if we all got busted on april 20th (420)

Then REFUSED to pay our fines.. forcing them to throw us in jail..

Making the tax payer pay for our "crime"..

picture how this would effect the economy? We couldn't work, they would have to pay for our days in jail..

Especially if non tokers got involved to..

But mine is even less likely to happen..

I believe if we all abstinained.. the government would simply say "Look how victorious the war on drugs is?"

Adds*

Just noticed how old this thread is...

I don't understand the supposed logic of the original idea. If every marijuana smoker stopped smoking, there would be those on the prohibitionist side who would stand to lose - true. But that provides no reason for legalization. They wouldn't recover any of their revenue unless people could still get busted.

The idea of all of us turning ourselves in at the same time has been tossed around for a long time. It's ridiculous. 99.75% of marijuana users haven't even bothered to make the effort to join one of the pro-legalization organizations. How many would volunteer to go to jail?
