I did a brief search thru the legalization section and couldn't find any threads with Aust legalization prevalent in the title. So if there's another thread on this topic by all means close it.

Anyway,

Right to it. Are there any formal organized efforts that any of you are aware of for legalization in Australia? Is NORML a strictly US thing? Another problem i've had is when trying to find statistics and such, all the info i find is American.

So my one question pretty much is, know of any legalization organizations in Australia?

Cheers guys,

Adikkal

we have one state, Canberra, (which is suspiciously where parliament is, and our dodgy politicians are) where personal use is legal. dealing in it is not. which always makes a lot of sense if you don't grow it yourself. the only probs is the place is an utter hole and few would choose to live there.

otherwise, i do believe they will give you a lovely ass-beating if your smokin anywhere past the borders of Canberra, particularly if you're aboriginal... not that too many aborigines are in a financial state to buy weed, they just tend to chrome with used deoderant bottles instead.

anyway, as for gov policies, our good ole prime minister Johnny Howard did set up a board of about 8 or so people to combat drug use. This involved a number of youth workers, counsellors, the usual lot, including a very old fashioned salvation army old fogie whose opinions were very far from reality. so after I believe 6 month of the board, Johnny howard decided that it needed a drastic change. one that removed all members except for the salvation army dude, whose opinions that "drugs are bad and evil and anyone who uses them are bad and evil" matched so perfectly our very own prime ministers. Following this, they got along with their "tuff on drugs'' schemes and got a bit more hardcore with the ass-beatin.

A funny result though, was that that year, (2000 or 2001) the heroine usage plummeted! They all patted each others backs and oh my my it mustve been a success they decided. Yet what they failed to unveil was the fact that amphetamine use and ecstacy use had gone up so much as to absorb the heroine disuse. Whoever didn't get their fix of heroine simply jumped to whatever else they could get their hands on.

heh, hows that for ridiculous politicians. removing all others with different opinions but his own.

WA has finally decrimmed less than an ounce for personal reasons, or two plants. they cannot be hydro plants though, and any amount of hash oil will land you in trouble...

two steps forward and one back, sight, at least were not going completely backwards like certain countries
