I think 21 is way too old...you can't say it should be 21 just because there are "some" 18-year olds who wouldn't be able to handle it...first off, who isn't able to handle pot?

There isn't that much to it...unless you don't know how to grin/laugh/cross your eyes.

I seriously doubt it would ever be below 18, but I wouldn't want to see it above 18...if you're in college, you should be able to smoke...

(or at least that's my view right now cause i'm 19, haha)

Oh, btw, don't vote for what you think will be, but vote for what you'd personally want!

Thats makes alot of sense, you want the activity your enjoying right now to be unlawful for you to do?

Most of us set the age so that it would be legal for us, pretending that we deserve the right to use it and those who havent been around so long shouldn't have that pleasure.

I'm going to change my age to a less bias and unfair age based system and.... say if you can pass the GED test you should be allowed to smoke, regardless of your age. And they could have the tests more often and get smarter people working there so when I scedule to do the test they don't cancel a month later and say they oversceduled and I have to wait 3 more months...

Well because there are a lot of kids my age who I don't think should smoke, and 16 is not that far away but 18 is way too far.

I voted 18 because I think it should be 18 and I know it will be, if not higher. Granted, those of you who are not 18 yet (im not) then it would only be fair for you to vote for a lower age in hopes of being able to smoke. But in a country where the only age limit that is 16 is driving, I wouldn't count on passing pot at an age limit of 16. Seriously. Id say if you can smoke tobacco, you can smoke pot. 18 it is.

Peace,

Default I chose 21

You wouldn't think, but there is so much growing up between the ages of 16 and 21. By the time you are 21, you've been responsible for yourself for 3 years, and are more grounded in your beliefs and goals. It makes a difference, trust me.

Drinking is at 21 because of the damage it does to your body before the certain age, which my Chemistry teacher described as 25 but no one would possibly stand for that to happen. Since pot does not hurt one's body the way drinking does, I think 18 would be the age due to how that is the age for tobacco also

The drinking age was increased not because of the harm that can be caused by abuse, but because of irresponsibility by teenagers.

From collegeapps.about.com
Quote:
After Prohibition, nearly all states restricting youth access to alcohol designated 21 as the minimum legal drinking age. During the 70s, 29 states lowered the minimum legal drinking age to 18, 19, or 20. These changes occurred when the minimum age for other activities, such as voting, also were being lowered. The fact that 18 years olds were open to potential drafting by the US army during the Vietnam was was also a factor - "If I am old enough to die for my country in the army, and I am old enough choose the future of my country by voting, how come I'm not old enough to drink?" was a popular argument.

In the backdrop of the lowering of the legal drinking age, several studies and researches found that motor vehicle crashes increased significantly among teens in the states where the minimum legal drinking age was lowered. Armed with hard evidence that alcohol consumption by teens lead to more driving accidents, citizen advocacy groups pushed states to restore the legal drinking age limit to 21. As a result of such campaigns, 16 states increased their minimum legal drinking ages between September 1976 and January 1983. Resistance from other states, and concern that minors would travel across state lines to purchase and consume alcohol, prompted the federal government in 1984 (under President Reagan) to enact the Uniform Drinking Age Act, which reduced federal transportation funding to those states that did not raise the minimum legal drinking age to 21. The legislation was quite effective: by 1988, every state had a minimum legal drinking age of 21.

I say 21 as well, however if it was legal when I was 18 I would probably have started then. Hell I would have tried it when I was 16 if I had, had the chance!

Talking 21

Well, alcohol was legal when I was 18 and in college, then it got bounced back to 21. I didn't go off the deep-end and neither did my friends. I think a lot has to do with more irresponsibilty in today's society period as opposed to 1975-1979 due to perhaps more socio-family problems. It's a tough call, but I said 21.

But it IS interesting to note the responsibility of marijuana smokers!! Look at the tiny meaningless % that voted for under 16. My point is the only "unknown" about marijuana is a rare but possible affect by marijuana in adolescence to cause "anti-achievement" afffects. As with ANY drug, not enough is known about its effects on children.

Here is a great resource I found: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/drugs/hemp-marijuana/

Take care!!!
