| As of this writing, 100% of respondents are concerned about legalization. I have an additional question for all these respondents: what are you doing to bring about legalization? I ask because there are an estimated 24,000,000 cannabis users in the United States. The three major pro-legalization organizations have a combined membership of 60,000. If all of these people are cannabis consumers (which they're not), that would mean that 0.25% of cannabis consumers were concerned enough to take a few minutes and less than it would cost to get high for one night to join the cause. NORML, MPP, and DPA have a combined budget of around $18 million. Half of that comes from a few billionaires. The feds spend $120,000,000 a year on anti-marijuana propaganda. How are we supposed to compete in what is largely a propaganda war when we can't afford to pay for propaganda? If every marijuana consumer put $25 a year into the movement, it would have $600,000,000 to spend on freeing us all from this odious prohibition. Join one or more of these organizations. Send them a few bucks whenever you can. It's an investment in your future. I have a monthly donation to NORML and MPP taken directly from my credit card. It's a small amount each month, it's painless, and it makes me feel good about doing something for my brothers and sisters, as well as for myself. National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) Drug Policy Alliance (DPA)

| I attribute my lack of political action to my age, financial status, and the fact I live with my parents. I did make a thread about legalization efforts in my region if that is any sort of redemption.... |

| Are you saying that you're too poor to send NORML $25 anonymously once a year? How do you manage to get high? Go to the post office, buy a money order, and send it in. You don't even have to sign your name. |

| I don't manage to get high, I haven't smoked since the super bowl, and then I wasn't smoking my own weed. The money I do use on weed comes from my lunch money, so I guess I could push off some highs if sending 25$ will get something done. |

| I send a $50.00 donation to NORML every year, when we get our tax refund. Makes it easier to do that way. It's all about priorities. You spend your money on what you really want. The question is, how badly do you want legalization?

| sorry guys, I'm the one guy who voted "I don't care." I smoked weed quietly and privately for 6 long years without hassle from anybody, and maybe I will continue to do so in the future, though at the moment I am a non-user. I live in BC, so that may say something about my outlook. I guess legalization would be nice, but I just can't get myself worked up about it. I would never vote for the BC Marijuana party because I think the administration and legislation of a province should be handled by a political party that is concerned about more than just letting people get high. If it came down to two pragmatic parties in an election, and one of them offered legalization in their platform, I would probably vote for them. Otherwise... -shrug-

| Nice explanation macphearsome. I personally would like Marijuana to be legalized. I think the world could benefit greatly, in areas besides "getting high", from the legalization of growth and sale of hemp and sinsemilla. Crazy possibilities.

Or should we be looking to other actions and statements to pull us out of this racism inspired, big business controlled law that we have? If the twenty four million people who smoke herb all got together and said, "We're not going to take it anymore, you fucking bastards!" Would that be enough? Could that accomplish what the truth doesn't seem to be doing? "Fuck you, we're not taking this bullshit anymore! We're sick to death of you ignorant bastards! Legalize it and concentrate on the important things that need to be done in our country before it's too damn late!" Maybe that's it. Maybe we need to scream at them. Maybe they need to have someone screaming in their face, a lot of someones, before we can accomplish what we all seem to want, (Well, almost... ) Killian.... Quote:

When really, a lot of us would rather be high and called a criminal than fight to stop it. It doesn't matter, does it? Really, it doesn't. As a group we are so apathetic we can't even begin to talk about it to other's. We have to fear the law and all the wrong ideas that the propaganda machine of big drug has perpetrated since the begining of all this shit. The next time your with your friends and fogging a big blunt, after everybody gets good and wasted, ask them what they've done in the last ten days for legalization of herb..... | This is exactly what I feel on the topic: dedbr took words from my mouth. Read the post before mine; it cannot be said better. I personally have recruited 103 people to date to the NORML cause on Facebook. It's a start. |
